Hi,

I am not an expert but if I had your problems I would format the drive and load Windows 7 and add any drivers needed from appropriate websites.
I don't trust recovery discs and have never had any luck with them, certainly not when loading onto a clean drive.
If it works ok you could load XP home or pro in a partition if you really need it or alternatively try Linux.
A friend has stopped Using Windows completely and has found Linux is able to meet all his needs...

I have a gateway mp8708
One of two things are likely your problem:
1) The battery is so dead that it's preventing any power from reaching the rest of the PC. Try pulling the battery out, plugging the laptop in, and turning it on.
If that doesn't work,
2) The motherboard power converter is burned out. If this is the case, unfortunately you will need a replacement motherboard or a replacement laptop.
Good luck, and hope this is helpful!

The reality is, Best Buy will only swap parts. there are other vendors on the internet that will replace discrete components. Google for "laptop power jack replacement" to find options. it takes decent skills to do this kind of repair, so research well.

Hi,
Take the battery out and try to boot it on AC power only, if the machine boots but can't load the operating system then the ticking sound could be and sounds like the hard drive has possibly failed.
Good luck.

I have a Gateway LP2417 monitor and there's No sound.Hoe do I fix it,so I can hear the video that is playing?
This monitor may not have built-in speakers. It may have supported Gateway's monitor mounted sound bar. That sound bar connected to the 3.5 mm audio out on a computer and a DIN port on the monitor.
The simplest solution is to connect your source to appropriate speakers. Depending on your audio setup, you could connect the video source to a receiver with HDMI IN and HDMI Out (ARC), computer speakers or an audio extractor. (If you are using an HDMI cable between the Gateway LP2417 and a computer, you may need to reset the audio output to use basic computer speakers (3.5mm jack).) VGA and DVI connections don't support audio so I assume you are using the HDMI port.
I hope this helps.
