How will i remove the virus manually?

i hope you got norton off your system before putting AVG free on. Virus programs try to fight off other virus programs by postiong false virus claims to erase the other program. eventually they will kill your hard drive. You need a product key for a good virus protectant. Norton or CA offer good, reliable protection for your dollar. What i would do, is back up any really important stuff you have there, format your hard drive and install Vista again if you have the disc and then re-install it to permanetly delete viruses. Also your system maybe slow because VIsta needs at least a dual core processor and 2 GB RAM to work like a XP machine

CD/DVD rom drive not working

Hi there.
It sounds like the drivers could be bad or the lens has gone.
This can be a common problem with vista loosing the CD/DVD drives.
Do this >>>>>> right click on "computer" and select "manage" from the sub menu, then select "device manager" from the left hand side, it will generate a list of devices, look down the list for CD/DVD and click on the + icon next to it, from the drop down list right click and uninstall, restart the PC and let vista re-install the drivers for you, then try to use the CD/DVD.
If this does not work please post back.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Upgrading bios without booting??

Hi,
Go to the following link, download the BIOS file and save it on the desktop. If you are running windows vista. Right click on the file and left click on Run as adminstartor. Follow on screen instructions and the BIOS would be updated. You would not require any external media for the job.

http://tinyurl.com/2qk4u4

Points to remmber :
1. Disconnect all external devices from the laptop
2. Both AC adpater(power cord) and battery should be in the system
3. The system would automatically shutdown and restart the system. Donnot press button during this stage.

On personal note , i would suggest to redo your windows and all problems would be resolved.

Thanks
Mandeep

Do remmber to rate the solution, it helps me improve. In case you need more support let me know.

How do you install a hard drive

Larry provides great answer up there ^^^ which is better down here. Larry Ng Jun 23, 2022 NO PC told (dell has 10000 models) no OS told, windows what"? no drive told. my wild wild guess is the boot drive is locked. and you are attempting and ******* act. to it. like deleting key parts of a running OS (windows) (like deleted tires on rims of 85mph moving car, fails) no real goal told, but the nebular "install HDD" one can add a 2nd drive easy or any of 1000s of external HDD models or external or internal, SSD or even a thumb drive. (vast) (just 2 steps in fact) but the boot drive , change out is far far far more complex. and you never not told that. you want to mess with the C: drive? now let me guess the real goal (sad I must) the OS drive windows is failing ( common) and some lil' bird told you it needs a new boot drive, and then fail to say so here. okay I will bite. 1: buy a new SSD (hdd fail and are slow) 2: buy a new OS, from MS. or get free w10. (ask how) 3: then put in new SSD, 4: run the w10 installer media (it is free) 5: load w10 to the SSD fresh 6: answer the silly 30 questions it asks. 7: and click activate. (buy it) ..
