Hard reset
- Put in the Operating Install CD or DVD and restart the computer
- During the POST screen, where it asks you to press F12 or del to enter setup do this
- Goto boot sequence or similar and ensure that your CD / DVD drive is first
- exit and save changes and when asked hit any key to boot from the disk
- Follow the install wizard and fill any information
- Done! welcome to your fresh install of windows

Remove and repair partitions on dell laptop
Boot up with the Windows installation CD start and follow the instructions to install Windows. Next Delete the existing Windows partitions. Next Create a new single partition. Next format this new partition - Format the partition in NTFS not a quick format. This will prepare the Windows for a clean install. Next create a Username and company name (normally Home is all you need). Further into the installation, you will be required to put in the Installation code. During the final stages of installation you need to create an User or Users that will use this computer. When you finished installing Windows you need to install the laptop's device drivers. You need to use a computer with Internet access to download these drivers from the laptop manufacturer's WEB site and install these drivers on your laptop.

Go to the Dell WEB site and request or download a recovery CD for your model notebook.You can download the device drivers from Dell WEB site,the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop,better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages,the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. If you have a BIOS level Password (Before Windows) contact Dell Tech support (800-624-9896 USA) confirm ownership and they can assist in clearing the password.
If it is a Windows Password, you will most likely have to either remember the password, boot to admin account in Safe mode (If XP Home) and change the password there, or reinstall windows
