you should be able to plug it into your comp then when you reboot the drive will install then its good to go, also check if there are any latest drivers for your model

needs cleaning probably....but to be honest, they are cost around 20 bucks brand new on www.newegg.com and they are easy to replace...

So the driver is either 'malfunctioning' or it's broken...do you know what revision firmware the drive is using? Your disk authoring software may tell you this. The latest version is 1.22 which you can get by Googling PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D firmware. Or go to the Pioneer website. I do not know how to upgrade the firmware for the recorder in MAC Land, in PC Land the firmware update is a simple executable file.

If you are running this version you can try to reflash it. Have you tried another brand of DVD disc? Some discs are less compatible than others. Try another brand of DVD

have you connected the 4 pin molex plug from the computer mainboard to the drive ?
is the IDE Cable correctly fitted ?
did you set the jumper connector on the rear of the drive to Master Or Slave ? if you are sharing the cable with a hard-drive, and the hard-drive jumper is set to slave, then the dvd will have to be set As Master ( otherwise they conflict ) or only 1 device will be recognised.

you probably need to reinstall the drivers for it.  what operating system are you running?

for most versions of windows, the first thing to try is to go to control panel, and then run the add new hardware wizard.

if that doesn't work, you may need to install drivers or firmware for the Pioneer Burner:

Depends on where you live. I'd buy these at Fry's electronics stores in California because I can bring in my equipment to check for size and fit rather than taking my chances online

You will need to remove the drive from the chassis first. Then take a long slender probe and insert in the hole to release the media tray. Once the tray is extended you will be able to pry the face plate off by pressing the tabs that click it in place.

you want to play music or a film on the laptop and run it through the Pioneer HTZ-170DVD Region Free Home Theater System and through speakers? I don't see why not. You would use the audio out on the laptop and connect to the audio input on the Pioneer. If the laptop has HDMI, it is even easier. Here is the manual.

You can only use Music CD-R with the logo of Digital Audio, no regular CD-R for data will not work with any CD Recordable, it doesn't matter the brand of CDs. Remember that, I have a player like your and Sony, and that's the catch.
