black screen with all lights on
after the power is on the operating system didn''t load. It is only black screen.
I called hp today, for the black screen at bootup. He worked me through it perfectly. Seems when the machine sits idle too long the power starts to efecct the mother board. The solution was to remove powercord and battery, press the startup button for 30 seconds then plug back power cord and press power start button again... Then reinstall battery and start with it in again... Worked fin after that I guess hp is aware of this issue.......

My daughter's laptop was slammed shut when the mouse was inside. Of course, the LCD screen cracked. I thought that was all that happened. I replaced the screen, put the battery back in....and now when I power it on it says:
Primary hard disk drive 0 not found
No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility
Is there something I can do to get it to find the hard drive or is it broken?
first go in to set up utility and see if the harddrive is detected there.
If none is detected, power off, remove battery, remove and reseat hard drive.LINK

Any help will be really appreciated!!
Regards,
Ronald!
This worked for me after the others didn't, get REG cure and fix your system, it seems weird to fix a virus remover with a virus remover but it works and I'm only 11!

Greetings all!
I have bought a replacement battery for a dell latitude d510. It worked wonderfully - until today. Now it will not charge, and it doesn't matter what charger I use, and I have an a/c cord and also a docking station. Neither works. I tried my old battery to see if it was responding the same way, but it is seen by the system and tries to charge, though it is at the end of its own life cycle.
When I checked the power settings in Control Panel, the listing for my battery says it is "idle" and 0% charged. How do you get it out idle state? I have tried to flash or reload original settings in BIOS and no luck...
THanks in advance!
Remove the battery and locate a small button on the battery press the button and you should see some indicator lights light up. It will tell you if the battery is holding a charge by how many indicators lightup.
No lights, the battery is dead. Either case try reseating the battery and charge it again.
If the lights are flashing the battery is shot.

I want 2 reset my entire dell d630 laptop
How do I do this I don't have any of the passwords
Hey,
I hope when you say that you wish to reset the system you mean you need to go to the factory settings. If you wish to go to the factory settings and even if you do not remember the password, there is still a way to do it. But in order to do it you need to have the OS disc from Dell. You have one, you can perform the following steps. It works for Vista:
HOW TO RESTORE DELL LAPTOP TO FACTORY SETTINGS USING DELL OPERATING SYSTEM WINDOWS VISTA DVD
1. Insert the Dell Windows Vista DVD into the DVD drive, and then restart the computer.
2. During the startup process, repeatedly press <F12>.
3. In the Boot Device Menu, press the <Down Arrow> to select *Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive,
and then press <Enter>. If the Boot Device Menu does not appear, restart the computer. (You
might not get Onboard or USB CD-rom Drive in that case if you get any option that says
anything about CD or DVD, select that option)
4. When the Press any key to boot from CD or DVD screen appears, immediately press any key
to start the computer from the Windows Vista DVD. For example, immediately press the
<Spacebar> when the Press any key to boot from CD or DVD screen appears. If you do not press
a key immediately, the computer may not start from the Windows Vista DVD to do image
restore. Instead, the computer may try to start the currently-installed copy of Windows
Vista operating system. If this situation occurs, restart the computer, and then repeat
steps 2 and 3.
5. When Windows Vista starts from the Windows Vista DVD, other screens may appear during the
startup process. If other screens appear, accept the default options, and then continue to
the language settings screen.
6. On the language settings screen, click the appropriate language in the Language to
install list, click the appropriate time and currency format in the Time and currency format
list, click the appropriate keyboard layout to use in the Keyboard or input method list, and
then click Next.
7. On the lower-left corner of the Install now screen, click Repair your computer.
8. If the Windows Vista Setup program detects any problems on the computer, click No when
the program displays the following message:
Windows found problems with your computer's startup options.
Do you want to apply repairs and restart your computer?
9. In the System Recovery Options window, under Operating System, click Windows Vista (TM) Version, even if this entry is already selected, and then click Next to display the Choose a recovery tool window.
10. Click on Command Prompt
11. Type path d:\windows;d:\windows\system32 and press <ENTER> key
12. Type d: and press <ENTER> key
13. Type cd tools and press <ENTER> key
14. Type PCRestore and press the <ENTER> key and Dell Factory Image Restore window will appear
15. Click on Next and Confirm Data Deletion dialog will appear
16.Place a check mark beside "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition" for the final confirmation & click on Next when ready
The restoration process takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes; the format bar will run back and forth (See Image
17. Click Finish to reboot system
