My Acer AL2216W monitor this

Go to Control Panel, (top right View Small Icons). Then look for Power Options. On this page, you'll have the option to leave the monitor on. You should also check "Advanced Power Options". Don't be afraid of the word, "Advanced." It only means "customizeable" If your mouse isn't waking your monitor, try the keyboard's space bar. I found it works better than the mouse at waking a sleeping computer

Shadows around the objects

One common cause of ghosting is an inferior monitor cable. Remove any extension cables and check again. The monitor may be getting interference from another device nearby, such as a printer, for example. Try turning off/ disconnecting other devices and see if the ghosting disappears. If so, you could buy a better shielded cable, or rearrange your components to prevent the interference.
That would be a simple fix if it works....

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

It wont turn on.

If the power light does not come on and it makes a screeching noise, most likely its broken. I would contact the manufacturor, in case some warranty left.

Power

There are monitors which have their own power outlet and there are some which don't have any. If you are sure that the monitor doesn't have power outlet, then make sure that you press on the power button. Please send me the model name of your monitor so that I can take a look at it and tell you what to do next.David

I have an Acer Monitor AL2216W and it will come on, the Acer name appears, then no signal and then the green light goes to orange. Is this the power supply or what?

It will go into sleep mode if it does not detect the signal from the PC. Try is with other PC first, also make sure the cable is seated properly.Basic LCD monitor and TV troubleshooting guide: http://www.fixya.com/support/r6150077-basic_lcd_monitors_troubleshooting http://www.fixya.com/support/r5093881-lcd_flat_panel_tv_troubleshooting_guide http://www.fixya.com/support/r7406380-tv_training_manuals Failed TV and Monitors pictures: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/ Learn about bad caps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague Capacitors kit: http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/ he can make you a set of caps for you. Power on and monitor goes to sleep mode

You need to try it on another PC, alos verify if the VGA cable is good. If nothing change, then you need to open it up, first thing to look for are the capacitors in the power supply. Look for cpas with bulging top/seal, see example of failed monitors here: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

It may have dying power supply due to bad components such as the DC filter caps, which is very common to all brands of LCD monitors as you can see in my albums.

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/ Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Check that the "data" (not the "power") cable between the LCD monitor and the video-card output on your computer is tightly connected at BOTH ends of that "data" cable.

Acer AL2216W 22" LCD monitor. DVI

You may have problem in the logic board, it uses surface monted components no much chance for DIY repair.
Service manual; http://elektrotanya.com/?q=showresult&megnev=Acer&megnev2=AL2216W&kategoria=monitor&kat2=all

The cases these days are hard to open, they use plastic finger hooks types, they go in easy but real hard to remove without damageing them.
Use thin flat blade to crack open at the bottom edge so the scratches will not be so noticeable, and work your way around, look out for cables attached to the front bezel also.
