If the exhaust duct on a 8 kg (18 pound) electric Speed Queen tumble dryer is blocked, will the thermostat prevent overheating of the tumble dryer?

The thermal overload switch should stop the unit from heating although it may continue to tumble.

Speed queen electric dryer heats for about 8 minutes then heat goes off and does not come back on

The duct may be clear but the exhaust on the back of the dryer may be blocked. You have to take the back off the dryer and check where the blower is. Good luck.

Start switch hums but will not start dryer

The most common cause of the problem you describe is a broken drive belt. This doesn't mean it is the only possibility, nor that it is the issue you are seeing, but based on your short description, this could be the drive belt. If you are mechanically inclined, you can replace it yourself, but if not, then contact your local appliance repair company to diagnose and replace whatever part needs it. If you open the back panel and see that the drive belt is broken, then this could be an easy fix. Here is a link to the drive belt that fits your dryer: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/Speed-queen-Parts/Dryer-Parts/511255P/0026/250/Model-AES28AWF/1271/0151200?keySuffixId=&pathTaken=partSearch&pathRender=modelComponent&documentCompId=1101142P&diagramPageId=00009&productTypeId=&searchModelNumber=AES28AWF&subCompDesc=Motor/exhaust%20fan/belt&brandDesc=SPEED%20QUEEN&modelDesc=DRYERS&blt=11&shdMod=&keyId=7

Loud squealing noise

check the blower, something may be stuck in it or it may be broken, also check the 2 tank rotors that hold the tank in place, they may be damage or it may be a little bit of oil.

The motor doesn't start; just hums.

I would have to agree that the motor is the problem, but before you replace it, check the bearing and blower fan to make sure they are in good shape. If the bearing is bad or the fan is blocked it could give you the same indication.

I have old style 4 prong plug,can i switch to 3

Yes. Remove old cord and install three prong with outer connectors to outer terminals on terminal block and middle to middle. There should be some kind of wire or strap that connects the middle terminal to the cabinet when you're done. A four wire setup should have removed the strap or wire but sometimes it isn't removed.

The clothes wont dry till 4 hours. it take 5 hours

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.
