f you hear the motor humming and not starting at all it most likely has a severe friction problem with the drum or motor. It could possibly have some type of garment jamming the blower wheel preventing the motor from starting too.

Open the dryer door and manually rotate the dryer drum counter clockwise (CCW). It should take very little effort to rotate the drum. If it's hard to rotate that could explain why the motor hums instead of starting up. If it turns freely, shut the door and see if will start. If it still hums and not start it may have bad motor or a low voltage supply to the motor. Also, check the blower for any obstructions. Sometimes a small article of clothing or a dryer sheet will get hung up and not allow the blower/motor to turn.

I am sorry to hear about your problems.
Often a large appliance fault may be difficult to fix, and the technician may need more than one service before fixing the problem.
Maytag appliances are covered under warranty for the first two years, and you should be entitled to free parts and service until the problem is fixed.

What the technician did was reading error codes, and in your case a faulty timer board may have returned the wron fault code, leading the technician to replace the wrong part.

It turns out it was a clog in the vent. We purchased a new vent kit and the clothes dried properly.

Hi, Is there ant heat at all? Is it possible the dryer heats at first and stops later in the cycle? The first thing to check is the 4" vent going to the outside. Make sure it is cleared of lint and that it is not pinched off at all.
If the vent is ok, you might need to replace the coils on top the gas valve.
I can help you with this. I just want to narrow it down.

most likely has hot surface ignitor, does not have free standing pilot.

what is the model number? free standing pilots have been gone for several years. Google your model number and include parts. This will give you sites that sell parts. You most likely have and hot surface ignitor.

The F70 indicates a communication error code between the main control on the top left and the user interface on the front. Unplug the machine and remove the top. Check the connection on the board in the white plastic housing on the top left. Next check the connections on the board on the front.
