Ecoquest Fresh Air Air Purifier - Page 8 Questions & Answers
No fresh air smell from
The FA2 uses several technologies for purification. The "normal" mode produces purifiers using the honeycomb RCI cell and UV light. This has little or no odor.
Open the back of the machine, or shine a flashlight through the front to make sure the white 4" plate is inserted, closest to the back screen. If it isn't, you'll need to either put one in, or order one from Vollara (new EcoQuest company name) @ 1-800-989-2299. You can use #16618 as the dealer referral number if you are no longer in touch with the registered distributor who sold you the machine.
When you turn the machine to "purifier," you should then detect the "fresh air" smell. You'll see square footage numbers, which you should set according to the immediate area, NOT total for the building! Also, the machine directs the air flow to the sides in a "V" shape, rather than straight ahead. So if you're standing close to the machine, smack-dab in the front/center, you may not be able to smell any of the purifier!
When the machine is on "Away" mode, the purifier and fan are ramped up to maximum strength, and you can choose 2, 4, 6, or 8 hours for this super-sanitization. At then end of that time, the machine will return to whatever setting you had it on for daily operation. No people or pets should be in the immediate area, because the purifier is strong and likely to be uncomfortable. (Set the timer for 2 or 4 hours less than the time you expect to be "away," to allow the purifier levels in the home to return to a pleasant level.)
Hope this helped.
My airfresh 2.1 doesn't start at all - ist there a
Check all connections. Start with the cord inserted FIRMLY into the back. Also make sure the wall outlet is live. (I know, that sounds rather silly, but you'd be surprised how often this is the problem!)
If it still doesn't start, unplug the machine. Remove the back protective shield, remove the lint screen, and look inside. Make sure the 4" white plate is inserted correctly, with the top and bottom in the "track" or groove. Make sure the "honeycomb" cell is firmly inserted.
Look for any obviously loose, broken, frayed, or corroded wires.
If everything looks fine, reassemble the machine. Make sure the lint screen depresses the interior safety lever (if your model has that feature). Before plugging it in, remove the fuse and make sure it hasn't blown. If it has, replace it with one of EXACTLY the same size, available at an auto parts store.
Try powering on with the remote, and also manually. Sometimes only one method will work.
If none of these troubleshooting ideas work, you'll need to call the company (Vollara, new name for EcoQuest) 1-800-989-2299. Ask for repairs. You may use #16619 if you are not in touch with the registered distributor who sold you the machine. They'll tell you your options.

Maintenance means that something needs to be done to make the machine workable. It doesn't "maintain" or clean itself up over a period of time. Evidently some part was not replaced or was inserted incorrectly.
"Add plate" means that the machine needs the 4" square white plate with the screen center inserted into the machine. It needs to be put in so the top and bottom of the plate follow the "tracks" or slots, into the machine. It may be inserted incorrectly so the machine does not detect it. That would appear to be the problem.
My EcoQuest fresh air was working fine over the
There is a fuse (the small square insert at the back of the machine; push it in to release then pop it out.) Before checking the fuse, make sure the plug is firmly pushed into the back of the machine. Also make sure the wall outlet is working. Then check the fuse. If it's burned, replace it with one EXACTLY the same, usually available at an auto parts store.
Before inserting the new fuse, remove the protective cover on the back of the machine, remove the lint screen, and look inside to see if you can detect any obviously loose or corroded wiring or parts. If you can see nothing wrong insert the new fuse. If nothing works, you'll need to call the company.
Vollara (new name for EcoQuest) customer service is 800-989-2299. Ask for repairs. You may give #16618 as your dealer referral number if you aren't in touch with the registered dealer who sold you the machine. They'll explain your options.
Ok replaced lamp and starter and now it wont come
Something is not reassembled correctly.
Check all connections, insertions, turnings, etc.
The lamp/starter need to be inserted so they "click" or "seat" firmly.
The plate needs to be inserted into the little "tracks" at the top and bottom of the plate. The contact fingers must press firmly on both sides of the plate. Bend them so they do.
The back screen needs to be inserted so the little pull-tab sticks out at the top and so the safety switch (if there is one) is depressed.
The back needs to be screwed back on firmly.
The plug needs to be inserted firmly, FIRMLY, FIRMLY into the back of the machine.
The little safety switch near the plug with the 0/- markings needs to be set to allow power to the machine (try it with power plugged in).
If all else fails, check the fuse (near the plug.)
If nothing works, call customer service (Vollara is the new name for EcoQuest) at 1-800-989-2299. They can walk you through these steps if you ask them to, then give you other options. Use #16618 as your dealer referral number if you are not in touch with a registered dealer.
My machine keeps kicking on
The problems very likely are related. The cell is the most important part of the air purification process, and the UV does lose power through time. If it says it needs to be replaced, it does.
A possible reason for the on/off could be a loose plug in the back of the machine. Make sure the plug is inserted firmly into the back of the machine, and make sure the outlet is not one that services large power-grabbing applicances such as a refrigerator or furnace. Make sure all parts of the machine are assembled firmly and correctly. (Is the plate inserted firmly, with the top and bottom in the little "tracks"?)
Call the company (Vollara is the new name for EcoQuest) at 1-800-989-2299 and ask for repairs. You can use 16618 as the dealer referral number. You can ask them that same question, also, and they may have other suggestions for the on/off issue. Before sending the machine in, try the new cell (make sure it's inserted correctly) and see if that alleviates the issues.

Unfortunately, this sounds like a computer problem within the machine. It can only be serviced by Vollara (new name for EcoQuest). They have several options, one of which can get you basically a like new/refurbished machine at a VERY reasonable cost! (Less than you'd pay a local computer dealer for computer work!) Call customer service 1-800-989-2299, ask for repairs, and give 16618 as the dealer referral number (unless you bought from an authorized dealer with whom you are still in contact.) Hope this helps.

My unit is going off
Something is probably loose either inside or in a connection somewhere. Make sure the plug is FIRMLY inserted in the back of the machine. Look inside and make sure that the plate is inserted correctly (in both top and bottom "tracks"). Make sure the metal contact "fingers" are pressing firmly against both sides of the plate. Make sure there are no wires that have pulled loose or corroded out. Also, make sure the machine is not plugged into an outlet which is on a line with a heavy appliance or furnace that draws a lot of power. If none of this helps, contact the company (now called Vollara) at 800-989-2299. You can use 16618 as your dealer referral number if you're no longer in contact with the original dealer.

What is a RCI or RCT cell?
The RCI cell is the "honeycomb" with the blue UV light. This is the normal purifier in the machine. It needs to be replaced about every 3 years, as the UV loses its power, even though it may still be lighting up. Call the company (now called Vollara) at 800-989-2299 and give 16618 as the dealer referral number if you need a replacement and/or an owners manual. Also, you can download the manual at

Hi, I have the Ecoquest SynairG4 and I had to
Somewhere on the front of the machine, between the manual control buttons on the right, is a tiny black button labeled "reset." While the machine is running, hit that button, then turn the machine completely off for a minute. Turn it back on. This should take care of the problem. (It's actually a timed reminder, like the annoying "check engine" light on your car.). If that doesn't do it, call the company at 1-800-989-2299 for further instructions.
Our EcoQuest Fresh Air unit
I have a similar unit. For the price they should be self cleaning and cook for you too! What I would try is Radio Shack for some Anti-static cleaning cloth and Electric contact spray. You would not want to spray too heavy on the display or it may get muddy looking.
If this does not have an effect, my UV light went out and set a screen to replace it. But this was after several months of cutouts and automatic restarts. Judging by mine, the light was the problem and should have coded earlier.
These are expensive units. The brain and reset button may be Static charged. Besides you ordering a new panel, a computer repair shop may be able to get into the circuit board and demagnetize it. They are use to working on Digital panels and circuit boards. I feel the same precautions for cleaning should have been recommended by EcoQuest as those for computers. Static-free cleaning areas and tools.
I hope my solutions help you get your unit fixed.
My Ecoquest Fresh Air purifier display reads:
By all means run the unit while you wait for the new RCI cell. The purifier will be less effective in killing germs while the RCI cell is out. It will still work to reduce the allergens in the air. Hope this helps you.
When I cleaned the unit
I have the same unit. You could be correct. Try taking the unit apart again and remove the display unit. Then go to Radio Shack and see what kind of Electronics spray they sell. You really do not have many choices. Too much spray will get in the display face and turn it nasty looking and if you do not do anything, it won't work.
You might also invest in Antistatic cloths to wipe the unit down with. Also consider the precautions people use to work on computer equipment. A really good computer shop may be able to disassemble the display unit, clean it with Electronics cleaner, and clean the reset button on the circuit board.
I know this brand is extremely expensive, our unit in the optional color cost us $800. If you are not the original owner this unit is worth a $100 + Repair bill to restore, easily.
I hope my Solution will help you. In cleaning this unit, you need to avoid a Static charge from the carpet or your work surface.

You can use any standard computer power cord for this purifier. If the damage is closer to the plug side of the cord, you could cut the plug end off and put on a new replacement plug. You should be able to find a replacement cord or plug at a hardware store. Hope this helps you.
