Retriving messages remotely
Hi Ern, Usually the phone has a default code you dial when you attempt to get messages from your home answering machine.
Try calling your home, let the machine pick up, after your message is heard dial 1234. Your machine should recognize the tones and play your mesages back to you. I just happened to read that earlier today while setting up a new message on our office phone.
Hope this helps, RadioWidgets
Wish to use the telephone company answering system how do I turn
There is a button marked "ANS ON/OFF" right on the base to control the answering machine function. The display shows "--" when answering is off, otherwise it shows the number of messages.
The manual says you can delete messages one at a time from the handset, or all at once or one at a time from the base.
You can download the manual from GE here:

"new voice mail" display
call your phone service and have them disconnect the voice mail and if they cant just remove that have them set there rings at like 9 since most phones only have up to 5 rings for the machine to answer.you will have to use there voice mail service to hear your message and then delete it but should be good after that. i have comcast and they said it would take 3 days to deactivate voice mail but told me how to get there so i can get rid of that flashing light, hope this helps you

Do you have a voicemail system with your phone carrier? My answering machine is not set to pick up messages but blinks when I have a message in my phone carriers voicemail system.
