If the screen on the remote reacts when you press the buttons and the dip switches haven't bee changed then the defect is not in the remote, it's in the fan itself. That would explain the noise coming from it, which most likely is caused by the oscillation of the propeller. This in turn is caused either by a loosening of the securing bolts (tighten them) or by an excessive wear of the bushings on the motor. In that case the fan is effectively dead, it will be cheaper to buy a new one than to call a repairman to replace the motor.

Take the remote aparts,clean the PCB with some Q tips with rubbbing alchahol.Check the back of the rubbers buttons back back films.If clean the PCB with some rubbing alchahol and the back films of the buttons are good.After the process,the remote should work.Not,than the reomote CPU is dead and it useless.

I have the same problem; the remote has become quite disgusting to touch. I recently sent a complaint to the company via the customer service page on the Casablanca Fan web site. They are sending a replacement, no questions asked, so clearly the problem is known to them and they have no solution other than replacement.

You are exactly correct... Power flows to the fan as soon as the circuit is closed. All the light (diming) and motor power, speed & reverse are all controlled by tones from the switch to a receiver inside the fan housing... (only 2 wires + ground). I have BOTH (the old style 3 switch) and the newer 4 button "W32" ... use the same tones BUT ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE...
