You don't say which version of Operating system you are using. My thoughts are to first go to "my computer" and see if your drive shows up there. If not, get to disk management and see if it shows up there. The crash possibly could have messed up your external drive, and now it needs to be initialized and/or formatted.
I cannot copy files
I used to get this problem until i updated my USB drivers. Or try a different USB port. I only have USB 1.1 and this device is 2.0. They should be inter-compatible but you know how these things are sometimes. Make sure the temp of the drive is reasonable too, I've not had heat problems with this one but i have with other external drives in the past.
Hope something I've said helps.
My WD25001032-001 is on, but it will not connect to the pc (not showing in Explorer either).
The clicking noise is a mechanical failure caused by the read/write arm making contact with the spinning disk or catching on something it shouldn't.
Check the warranty status at:
WD Support Warranty RMA Services
If the drive is out of warranty, and you have important data on the drive, and you can't afford to send it to a company to retrieve your files and have tried absolutely everything to get get it off, you can try this: Put the drive (and silicon packs in there if available to absorb moisture) in an air-tight ziplock bag. Place it in the freezer wrapped in a towel for a few hours. (Chilling the drive makes the metal inside the drive contract enough for the arm to function properly)
Remove from the freezer and immediately attach to the computer. If detected, transfer files immediately. The drive will heat up quickly and the mechanical failure will return.

I don't have a photo of the AC adapter, but if you look on it the Voltage and Amperage specifications are;
Input: 100-240VAC / 50~60Hz
Output: 12VDC / 2A
This means the Input power can be from 100 volts to 240 Volts AC, and at 50 to 60 Hertz
The Output power is 12 Volts DC at no more than 2 Amp's. (Amperes)
Asian Power Devices Inc. has a model DA-24B12 that fits these specs.
Also a Wattac AC adapter model number - BAO362Zl-8-A01 will work.
Otherwise just use a 12 Volt, 2 Amp power pack, with a positive on center contact, and a 2mm pin hole

Data recovery- opening a WD2500I032
Ifyour hard drive can be detected and shows up as a drive letter in my computerbut you can't access or open your files, then you can
recover your data from hard drive with
data recovery software easily. This way is theeasiest and the most inexpensive way for
hard drive data recovery. If you bring it to BestBuy or a professional, they will cost you $500-1000 or more.
I managed to recover data from crashed hard drive with Tenorshare DataRecovery. If needed, you can download it and scan your hard drive for free topreview whether your data can be recovered. It will show you the filename, type, date and of your files and thumbnails for pictures that it foundon your drive. Get it from
http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoveryprofessional.htmIf it fails, you will have to bring it to Best Buy or a professional but let'shope not because it will cost you a lot of money ($500-1000 or more) andwhether they can recover data is not guaranteed.

Hello, Joyce.
Connect the travel drive to your new laptop via the USB cable to a USB port on your laptop. There should be a display that the travel drive (Western Digital ?) is trying to connect or is connected.
If unsuccessful connecting, you would need to install the driver for the travel drive. Or, the USB travel drive cable is faulty.
If connected successfully, note the drive letter (typically would be "F" or "G"). If "F" for example, select My Computer and look for the "F" drive (or whatever letter drive the travel drive is when connected to your laptop). Select "F" (or whatever letter) and select My Documents. Select all the documents and Copy. Go to My Computer again and look for My Documents on the "C" drive (your laptop). Select Paste and all the folders and documents should be copied.
If you did not keep your photos in the My Documents folder but in "Pictures", go to your "Pictures" folder on the travel drive. Select all the files and Copy. Go to the Pictures folder on the laptop and select Paste and all pictures/photos should be copied.
Hope this helps.
