Whirlpool Timesaver Model RM286PXV3

It should be pretty straightforward to replace. You need to be sure the oven is unplugged.

It's easier to remove the wires while it's still screwed onto the oven. There may be locking tabs on the terminals, so don't force them! Pliers will help, but be gentle.

When you gets the wires off, unscrew the old one, put the new one on, and tighten the screws, then reinstall the wires.

Cooktop light quit working

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Details of our service and critical safety information and disassembly information is at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Won't heat up

Hi larry,

Would it be posible your not setting the heat, is your microwave a popcorn setting one touch bottom.
It is also posible that the magnetron is not working, could be several factors, bad cap, power supply if it has one and bad magnetron. Also thermistor default may also not letting the magnetron to firer up.
You or going to have to figure how it works. also bad door switch may cause this.
To see were you or going if you know were the magnetron is then you most know that is is supplyed by a transformor, step up, at the primery winding , with a voltmeter set on ac voltage see if the voltage is present when starting the microwave, if the voltage is there 115vac you will notice will pulse on and off depending on your power level setting and there is still no heat then it's your secondary of the transformer that is not working.
This could be bad cap, power board if there is one, bad magnetron. Do not test the secondary voltage unless you understand it's very high.
If there is no voltage present, don't go farther, check your swithes, thermistors.

Regards

bob

Complete functioning control panel but nothing works.

This is a problem with the control panel assembly, which we repair nationwide for $32.50 postpaid. Sometimes the bulbs short when they fail, and that damages the control board. This also can happen when bulbs are removed or installed without first unlugging the oven or turning off the breaker. For critical safety & disassembly info and other details of our service, see http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Whirlpool microwave/oven model RM286PXV3

Just so I understand, you replaced the fuse inside the oven? If so, I would suspect a bad thermostat attached to the magnetron. This device interrupts power when the unit gets too hot. I've included a representative photo. After so many years your magnetron may be bad, too. Once you get the oven working, if it cooks and doesn't trip the thermostat again, it may be okay. PLUS - It looks like this model has manual rotary controls. If so, it's common for those to develop bad contacts after so many years. I would consider that my third suspect. Those controls are called the thermostat (not to be confused with other part by that name that I discussed above) and the selector switch. One could easily be bad. You can check part prices at Sears online at http://www3.sears.com (the "3" is supposed to be there) Some other things that can cause a "dead" condition: - bad connections on the small circuit board where the fuse is mounted (if such a board is present) - bad connections in the wiring Good luck.

Whirlpool Microwave / Oven. It is showing 'DOOR' when I press Start.

  1. Clean the door sensors: If your microwave is showing "DOOR" when you press start, it's possible that the door sensors are dirty or obstructed.Try cleaning them with a soft cloth or cotton swab23.
  2. Replace the door switches: If cleaning the door sensors doesn't work, it's possible that one or more of the door switches are faulty and need to be replaced. You can follow this video tutorial to replace the door switches yourself3.
If none of these steps work, it's best to contact a professional or the manufacturer's service center for further assistance. I hope this helps!

How do i get to the fuse on a Whirlpool microwave MH1170XSS

A bad fuse is one of the most common problems on microwaves, including Whirlpool ovens. Most modern microwaves use the same style of fuse which you can find at most appliance and electronics stores. The difficulty of replacing the fuse in a Whirlpool microwave can vary depending on whether you are working on a countertop microwave or a built-in. Knowing where to start can make the process much easier for either style of microwave. Countertop Microwaves Step 1 Unplug the microwave and let it sit for a few minutes before beginning repairs. Bring it to a clear area with enough room to work. Leave enough room to have access to it on all sides. Step 2 Remove the Phillips screws from the outer shell of the microwave. The screws are located along the lower sides and around the edges of the back. Put the screws into a bucket or bowl to keep them together. Pull the shell away from the microwave, and set it to the side. Step 3 Look for the fuse inside the exposed controls of the microwave. The fuse is located in a small receptacle with two wires running to it. Use a flat screwdriver to pry up from the bottom of the fuse. The fuse will pop out. Replace the fuse with a new one. Built-in Microwaves Step 1 Unplug the microwave, and let it sit for a few minutes before beginning repairs. Step 2 Open the microwave door, and look for two Phillips screws along the left side of the control panel. Remove these screws. Lift up on the control panel, and tilt it outward. The control panel will rest on its hinges. Step 3 Find the fuse receptacle within the control area. Is is usually located to the left or center of the cavity. You will see two wires that go to either end of a small, plastic receptacle. Use a flat screwdriver to pry up on the bottom of the fuse. The fuse will pop out. Replace the fuse with a new one.
