My hp pavailion laptop`s screen

Hook an external monitor to the video output on the back of your laptop to check for a clean signal, if you get a full picture it means the video graphics is fine, then the LCD screen is suspect or possibly the connecting cable, "graphics card to screen" if on the other hand both screens show the same white problem you have a motherboard issue which houses the video graphics card. A proper estimate would be in order.

Replace the Inverter, rickeyjsmith.

An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. An additional light source is needed.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. (Lamp = Bulb)
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale in physical size.
(Average size is 3 to 5 inches long, and half the diameter of a No.2 pencil)

An Inverter is used to provide power to the LCD screen, and the Backlight.

90 PERCENT of the time the Inverter is the problem.

Which is a Good thing.
The Backlight is located inside the metal frame that hold the LCD panel layers together.
Usually on one side of the LCD screen.
{Some LCD screens require Two Backlights}

Replacing a Backlight is a job for a trained repair person.
The LCD screen is a composite of layers.

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Vikuiti1/BrandProducts/secondary/optics101/

A lot of times the LCD screen is replaced for Backlight replacement, because some LCD screens require this.

Backlights cost more than an Inverter, and of course an LCD screen costs much more.

This is an example of an Inverter for an HP pavilion dv2000 series Notebook PC,

http://www.buy.com/prod/new-usa-lcd-inverter-hp-pavilion-dv2000-dv2100-dv2200/q/sellerid/23962916/loc/101/217117085.html

The above is ONLY an example.
An Inverter MUST be matched to THE LCD screen.

Stating Pavilion dv2000 is only stating the series.
The EXACT Product Number is located on the bottom of the laptop in a white Service Tag.
P/N = Product Number

Also, there is an HP part number on the Inverter.
Match the HP part number to the listing for the Inverter you are going to purchase.

A reputable seller will list THE HP part number so that the buyer will purchase THE correct Inverter.

How to replace an Inverter in an HP Pavilion dv2000 series Notebook PC;

1) Service Manual

I'm going to use the HP pavilion dv2000 CTO Notebook PC as an example.
The Service Manual is the same for All of the Pavilion dv2000 series of Notebook PC's,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=1817074&

On this page click on the file name >
HP Pavilion dv2000 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide.

After you click on the above link it may take up to 30 seconds, or more, to see the first page.
In the meantime you will be viewing a blank white page.
The PDF file is downloading in the background.

In the Bookmarks menu to the left, click on the + sign to the left of >
Maintenance and Service Guide.

Click on the + sign next to > Removal and Replacement Preliminaries
Read up on Anti-Static Precautions

Now go back, and click on the + sign next to >
Removal and Replacement Procedures.

Scroll the sidebar down, and click on > 5.12 Display Assembly

Direct information on replacing the Inverter is on Page 152.
(Page Number Box at the top of the PDF file, to the right of the blue Down Arrow)

I use a computer pick to ease up on one side of the rubber Screw Covers. You may have a similar device you can use.
If you are careful with the rubber Screw Covers, you can reuse them.
There is a contact cement on the covers.

Lay them down glue side up on a piece of paper.
(They do like to stick to the computer pick, and your fingers, however. Giving you a 'heads-up'.
Try to keep the glue side from picking up debris, however)

If you need guidance, no matter what it is concerning this procedure, please post in a Comment.

One more thing that pertains to the HP pavilion dv2000, dv6000, and dv9000 series of Notebook PC's, that I think you should be made aware of,

My HP dv2000 shuts down and does not turn back on.

Your DC connector on the system board is loose:

Problem symptoms:

  1. Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  2. Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wiggle the power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  3. The battery will not get charged.
  4. When you plug AC adapter, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).

If it is under warranty, HP will repair it. If not , read this:

Blank Screen on start. No display

Hi ,

Here are the steps that you can follow to resolve the issue .

Turn the computer off completely ,disconnect any external devices connected to the computer along with the cable for the internet .Then press and hold the power button on the front panel of the computer tower and then hold it for atleast 30 seconds.Turn the computer on and check what happens.

Turn the computer off and then as soon as you turn the computer on tap the f8 key repeatedly until you get a black screen that says advance boot menu options ,select the option that says safe mode and hit the enter key .Select the operating system if you have xp or else you need to wait for the page wherein you can put in the password. If it is sucesful then it will take you to the desktop so you need to restore the computer to an earlier time when the computer was working fine.Click on start?all programs ?accessories?system tools and then system restore .(in case of vista simply type system restore in the search bar and hit enter). Once the resotre page opens up select restore my computer to an earlier time and click next. You will get a calander whic has different dates so select a date when you think that the computer was working fine. The date that you select should be in bold.Click on nest next to exit from the wizard and then the computer will restore and then will restart which wil take you to the normal mode.If the restore is succesful then it will take you to the desktop .

If safe mode does not work try with last known good configuration which takes the computer to the date when the computer was working fine.If non of the options work then you can go to the recovery page to do this instead of the f8 key tap the f11 key until you get the system recovery page then click on next to get to a page that says advance option ,need to click on that and then select system restore .This is for xp in vista its the same key (f11) but you get a recovery manager page then you will have to select advance option then system restore .

If these options does not work then recovery needs to be done wherein the computer needs to be formated.

All the best....

When I try to open my laptop, there is just 3

Video error: the BIOS is unable to access the video system in order to write any error messages to the screen. This is usually caused by a problem with the video card, or the memory on the video card. Since in your case the video chip and memory are part of the motherboard's chipset and it can't be replaced or repaired it means that you will have to replace the motherboard of your laptop.

    Boot mgr is missing and

0XE0EF000E is an error message and means that the boot sector is corrupt or missing.
Re format the hard drive is the easiest way to recover and then restore your data backups.
Place your Windows install disk in the dvd drive and boot up the laptop. Follow the prompts and if the menu asks if you wish to repair your version of Windows, select that option. It may work depending on how corrupt the system is. You may have to let Windows re format and start again.

    My dv2000 is not comeing

Please follow the diagnosis outlined in this article to check whether the backlight lamp or the inverter board are the root cause of the problem or not:
    http://www.fixya.com/support/r6430776-troubleshooting_laptop_power_failures

If you connect the external monitor & nothing is displayed on it, then this means that both the backlight lamp & the inverter board are fine. The main indicators in these cases are the sound, and the hard drive LED on the laptop case. If the laptop sounds just like it always does for a minute or two after being turned on, it means it's going ahead and booting the operating system, but the video processor or part of the motherboard circuit for video output has failed. If the laptop just sits there and beeps when you turn it on, or if you hear the fan but not the hard drive chuckling with its active LED flashing away, it means the laptop isn't getting as far as trying to boot the operating system. While this could be due to any number of hardware problems, the most common and easiest to
troubleshoot or repair is RAM failure. If your laptop has two RAM modules installed, try booting with just one and then the other in the primary slot. If your laptop only has one RAM module, you might consider buying one online from a site with a good memory selector, like Crucial.com

(lights and fan are running but nobodies home) place thelaptop in a bag for about 20 min. (it will get really hot) now hold down the power button unroll it is off. Now try booting. Sometimes holding down f10 as you power on helps.
