Good day,
There are a lot of reasons the ice maker can fail to mae ice.
If you take the following steps it will resolve the proble. However, the freezer must be at normal temeratures for the ice maker to function.
If the freezer rises above 14 degrees the ice maker will lock out. That is by design.
First step is to take a small paper cup of water and fill the cavity until it is near full. With the ice maker turned on, close freezer door and wait 3 hours to see if it harvests. If not, the ice maker is bad, and must be replaced. If the cubes harvest then.......
Three possibilities.
1. The water supply from the house is not delivering water to the water valve. Shut off the house at the meter, disconnect the line going to the water valve, and with the line pointed into a bucket, have someone turn the valve back on for a 15 second count. The water should come out smartly. If not, the line and it's fittings will have to be replaced.
2. The fill tube from the back of the machine that feeds water into the back of the ice maker is frozen up. You will have to remove the ice maker to visually inspect that tube. If blocked, it needs to be defrosted, but use caution. Too much heat too fast will start to melt plastic and vinyl parts you don't want melted.
If this is the case, then once cleaned out, you will have to change the water valve located in the back bottom rear of the machine because it is leaking during the off cycle.
3. If everything checks O.K. up to this point, you will have to purchase and install a new water valve, and install it.
P.S. Under very rare occasions the electric circuity in the ice maker will fail to send a signal to the water valve. Although rare, it can happen, in which case the best option is to replace the ice maker and water valve.

Yes, Unplug everything, reset the breaker or replace the fuse. Turn items on one at a time, starting with the fridge. Whichever one trips the breaker has a ground fault and needs investigation and repair.

In this order, check

The wire strainer where the water enters the appliance.

When was the filter changed?

Has it ever been descaled?

It might be the pump, partially blocked or failing.

The manual for the UW8F2CXLSB gives the normal defrost procedure. Remove food (you can set the freezer to a lower temperature or the Fast Freeze setting to super chill the food first for several hours). Store the food in a cool location. Then remove the freezer drawers and turn off the unit. Leave the freezer door open and put some towels or other absorbent cloth in the bottom to soak up the ice water. Replace the wet towels with dry ones as needed. Once defrosted, clean and dry the freezer before turning it back on. Then return the food to the freezer. There isn't a fast defrost that I know of for this Whirlpool freezer.

I hope this helps.

Your drain is stopped up. The water is freezing because it has no where to go. Clear the drain line with compressed air.

WHIRLPOOL WRF40 Solution to this problem!!! very easy ----I assume you have a problem with the control board switching on and of erratic when you pass setting 3 on the LED display, the designers of this fridge left the calculator at home that day, ask a technician to replace the Resistors 5, 6 & 7 (330 OHM 1/4 watt) on your electronic control board with 680 OHM 1/4 watt. This would solve the problems with this board, the LEDs will not be as bright as they were but still highly visible. Questions? [email protected]
