Our Yamaha remote RAV331 is not working. Light comes on when pressing buttons. Reset remote & receiver. Batteries are good & clear view to the receiver. Anyone have anymore suggestions?

“Reset remote & receiver” can't solve problem. (1)Remote ID does not match with your amp ID. You should download service manual to check the remote ID.
(2)“even Light comes ”on when pressing buttons, receiver sensor diode may get defected. Check it by your mobile phone camera.
(a)pointing the phone camera to the remote diode.
(b)don’t take any photo.
(c)when remote appear on the phone screen, press any remote button.
(d)If white flashing light is shown, remote diode is OK.Replace it and buy same part/component as stated in service manual.

I have a little used Yamaha RX-V870. I am getting output on only one of the two rear channel speakers. At one time I had a bookshelf speaker on one leg and a small floor speaker on the other leg.

“I have a little used Yamaha RX-V870. I am getting output on only one of the two rear channel speakers.” According to this symptom, chance of your av amp to get defected is very low. Maybe wrong speakers settings. Read instruction manual first.

If settings is correct, check front L/R relay and surround L/R/Back relay also .(bad contact due to oxidation)Exchange the good one(rear) with those suspected to see if sound come out from speakers. Download RXV870 service manual to locate them.

I'm trying to connect my yamaha rxv592 reciever to my samsung smart tv LCD. The reciever doesn't have a optical option or hdmi. I love surround sound. Please help

You need something like this: Digital to Analogue 5.1 converter: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/131104197505?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=107&chn=ps I have never used one of these before, but i have worked in the audio industry and if this device works as advertised it will suit your needs.

I have a wonderful old Yamaha M-40 Stereo Power Amp. It has a thump-prevention speaker protection circuit that does NOT kick off and engage the speakers...

Hi there. More than likely the power output stage has a problem (possible if the amp was on at the time of the surge). It would be best to have a proper component tester to check the stage components but component testers are expensive. But the good thing is that you have an other working amp. Since you don't have the knowledge or proper equipment I would suggest to open up both amps and compare the readings of the same points of each amp. A shorted or cut-off power semiconductor would show even on a multi-tester set at the diode scale. Check also ALL the fuses and fuse resistors related to the output stage (resistors under 1? (brown black black 1? or gold brown black 0.1?) .

My yamaha RX-v1600 receiver volume not will only mute or play at one volume. I tried cleaning the mechanism but it did not help. Is there some wrong with the board.

Sometimes cleaning the potensiometer (mechanism as you described it) and lubricating them with electric contact spray does not fix the issue. Although if you havent done so, please purchase a good potensiometer/contact cleaner from an electronics retailer, take the cover off your amp and after blowing off ALL the dust that may have been accumulatet inside the amp, spray a bit of cleaner in the volume potensiometer from the terminal opening or any hole on the body. If it is of the sealed type then it has to be replaced. Please test the terminals of the potensiometer where they connect to the pcb with a component tester or if not available with a multi-tester set at ? 's (any scale that would give a reasonable indication when the potensiometer is set at the middle position). Test between one of the end terminals and the middle one. Indications should change logarithmically while you turn the knob slowly. If you get a sudden over range indication then that potensiometer is damaged and needs replacing.

Yamaha amplifier rx-v457 auto shot down.?

If the auto shut down is activated the moment the amplifier is turned on then there must be a problem with the output. Please check the speaker cables visually for short circuit. You can also use a multi-tester set at 20 ohms scale. Unplug the all the speaker cables from the amplifier and test at the cable terminals. You should get a reading anywhere between 4 and 10 ohms at each terminal. If the speaker.cables are fine then the one of the power outputs of the amplifier (front or central or surround) must be damaged. If the shut-down occurs while playing music for some time, you may have to remove the cover of the amplifier and check for dust accumulated on the heat sinks of the power output stages (aluminium plates with fins). Blow the dust off the sinks and the rest of the circuits.

How to turn on a turntable on Yamaha mc-600 sound system-- 50+ years old

If the turntable is a belt drive one then the belt must have deteriorated after all these years. Pull up (remove) the turntable disc platform. you will see a little motor shaft and the cut or deteriorating belt. You can order the belt from http://www.vintage-electronics.net/yamaha-mc-600-belt.aspx. Please make sure that you clean the black residue left on the motor shaft and the turntable platform where the belt runs with isopropyl alcohol before you put the new belt on.

Yamaha htr 5740 reciever i turn it on and it sounds like it powers up cause it clicks on but no display in the front panel

“it sounds like it powers up cause it clicks on but no display in the front panel” NO,it does not sound like power up due to "no display in the front panel" The relay controlling AC line power connected to LARGE POWER TRANSFORMER DOES NOT switch ON with the exception of voltage for FL tube(front panel) is down.Check standby board (AC inlet board) that is its reset signal and AC_PWR_DET are of paramount important. REMEMBER TO CHECK THOSE NON POLAR CBB Capacitors (their capacitances.)4bae7964-7459-4ded-b909-319dfd2698e3.jpg
