Hard drive disappeared from my

Hello,
This should help.

Launch ScriptEditor and copy and paste this into the script window:

tell application "System Events"

set visible of disk "NameofDisk" to true

end tell

tell application "Finder" to quit

delay 1

tell application "Finder" to launch

Replace NameofDisk with the actual name of your disk, hit the Compile icon to make sure the script didn't acquire any errors, and then hit run. This should set the visible attribute back to visible and quit and relaunch the Finder, thus making the change available.

The same thing can happen to other drives, both internal and external. You can use the same Applescript to fix those as well, just put in the name of the drive.

How can i get ram for my g4 mac system ? and how

if you go to www.crucial.com you can use the RAM selector to figure out how much RAM you can put into your particular system and then order it from them over the internet. They are extremely good and very competitive. Hope this helps.

How do I install osx 4 on my G4?

I will assume you are talking about 10.4. You will probably need to install 10.3 first and then use an upgrade CD to get 10.4 installed. I would not install a system higher than 10.4 on this system.

Lost power to the house with computer on. Once

I suspect that all you have to do is reset the Power Manager (CUDA) to straighten your machine out.
There are several models of Power Mac G4, and the procedure is different for each. Comprehensive instructions are here:

I mistakenly changed the hard drive name on my

I take it that you have forgotten the original name of the hard drive if not just rename the disk. Failing that go into itunes go to preferences and then click on the Advanced tab and you can then change where you media files are.

For iphoto look at this article on the apple website

Hope this helps

Sekondhand G4,no disc,no password.

Try hitting the ENTER key when prompted for the password. Let us assume the seller was kind enough to remove the password before selling the Mac. If you are not in luck, try borrowing a System disk from a friend (most Mac Users are really friendly), and maybe they offer you a copy of the CD/DVD. After booting from the CD, you can reset the password easily.

MacBook Desktop Lost My Desktop Folders

Hello, it semms that you have a "permission" issue, or that you are accesing another account on the computer without noticing it. Please repair disk and permissions from the disk utility on your install DVD:

- Insert install DVD
- reboot the mac holding the C key
- choose english
- Go to the utilities menu and choose Disk Utility
- In the disk utility window, SOS tab, select your drive, and hit repair disk and repair permissions
- reboot

Also check that you are accessing the account that you want and not another one: log out, and log in...

G4 wont boot up

OK sounds disturbing.. You have the same unit I've been happy with for some time.
So....You either have a Hardware of Software issue- First check the Hardware:

If you have it...use the CD Apple Hardware Test. that came with the computer
Once you get it in the CD drive - power off the computer.
Then, restart it while holding the "C" key down. This will makethe computer boot up from the CD and from there you can run theon-screen menu diagnostics...this will give you a detailed report ofeverything hardware wise good or bad in your box.

If all hardware is good then you will probably have a software issue and, you may need to Restore the Mac..with the Software Restore disks ( 4 CDs) that came with your model, then reinstall OSX ( 2CD) (depending on which OS you are using)
Here's a quick link to Apple's info on doing this.Apple

I suggest giving Apple a call even though the G4 is probably out of warrenty. Apple has provided me with out-of-warrenty phone help(usually late at night when they're not busy) for free and gave megreat help.

Also... check in your area for any Mac User Groups..(that's right- MUGs). any missing diskscan probably be easily located there, and these folks love to help.
Good luck...danielj

Lost Desktop

You didnt change the administrator, you added a profile. SO all the stuff you were using is still in your friends name. You will have to go in as the administrator under his name, and put all your stuff on an external and log back in as yourself and put it on your side.

1. LOG OUT - Hit apple in top left corner, select log out, it will bring up 2 profiles, go in that way.
2. SYSTEM STARTUP - on desktop in whoever's profile click apple in top left, preference and then startup disk, select your profile and it will go to you all the time. Hope this helps.

733 mhz Mac G4 tower

OK
Sounds like a system error. The only way round this is usually to start up from your original OS disk.

You have quite an old mac (relatively speaking) and sounds like you are running OS 10.4?

Try starting up from the disk. You should then be able to see your drive. If you can see the hard drive you might back up important files now (if you can connect a external hard drive) The first thing is to try and repair the OS on your drive with the apple disk utility on the disk. You'll find that in the drop down menu. If it cannot repair you will have to re-install the OS. Archive the old system and install a new one. A clean install is usually better. Then get all the updates.

With your machine you will be limited as to what OS you can put on it.
