This is a indication of a hard drive failure you could run a program called spinright on this its a small investment of $50 bucks but does save hard drives and 9 times out of 10 puts them back in business. Hi, try changing the power supply!
Although mine was showing 12v output (unloaded), once it was put under load there was not enough power to run the freeview and the hard drive at the same time so only the freeview worked. £16 from TVonics and everthing is fine, didn't have to format the drive so I didn't loose any data

first you check the recording fuction is working properly after check the recording media

Go to your on screen menu under dtr settings and format the hard drive. If you have been recording the hard drive may be full and some programs need to be deleted to allow more recording space. You may also unplug the unit for several minutes and use the reset box option.
