I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

Thanks for using FixYa. Please check for the following if your dishwasher is not working--

1. Fuse (blown or tripped).
2. 120 VAC supply wiring connection faulty. Repair or replace wire fasteners at dishwasher junction box.
3. Electronic control board faulty.
4. Motor (inoperative, check resistances).
5. Door switch (open contacts).
6. Door latch not making contact with door switch.
7. Touch pad circuit defective.
8. No indicator lamps illuminate when START or OPTIONS is depressed.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

The dishwasher may have a defective cycle timer.

Probably the cycle timer is faulty. It is "hung" in the heat dry part.

There is a pan under the base of the machine with a sensor in it. You have a leak, but you can't see it because it is in the pan.

E4 means that the dishwasher thinks there is water below the tub in the base pan. Make sure you don't have a leak from one of your hose connections and if that all checks good, call warranty since the unit is brand new because either your control board is bad or there is a leak from the factory if it is in warranty.

Does it cycle i.e. fill, wash, rinse, and drain?

If yes, then heater relay likely has failed (closed).

What model number?
