New Mastercool pads smell bad
The cellulose pads in a mastercool are glued together and usually the adhesive is what you smell. It may take a while for it to go away. Strange as it may seem, as the pads get more mineralization and you use it more the smell will go away. Do not use a cooler for your whole house without plenty of exhaust through a window or an updux. Coolers work best when there is plenty of freely moving air.
New pads smell like urine.
Hi there,

Can i reduce the duct vent size
yes of course you can but if its because your getting to much air you can reduce the fan speed by just replacing the pulley or if it doesnt have a belt drive system it would be cheaper and easier just to install an inverter speed control
Bonair Evap Wont turn on after power failure
Hi bud do youself a favour before anything else take the main motor out and send it in to a reputable electrical repair co such as dynamic electrical in Benoni or look up a similar co near you and make sure that your system has not been hit bye lightning or a power surge from the supplier first I do own a Co that specialises in evap coolers and from previous knowledge a lot of the new systems have 12V inverters and if there has been a storm and you havnt diconnected your unit the PCs and motors are more than likely fried
Mastercool plus 6500 thermostat problem
Posted also on the Cooler quick cycling problem: My Master Stat Controller (CC2000A Rev 2003) was in 2 parts. The Thermostat unit in the house and the Power Control unit in the Cooler. The power Control unit was mounted on the squirrel cage fan housing so it vibrated some when running. That means the components vibrated slightly with respect to the PC board. Especially the larger components.
My first symptom - Intermittent failure to turn the water pump on. I could see a faint crack in the solder around the pin of a relay on the PC board. Re soldering the PC pins solved that problem. Later, the second symptom was quicker than usual on-off cycling of the fan. I re-soldered all the pins on the PC board and all problems subsided.
A better mounting place for the Power Control Unit would be good, but outside of the cooler might be a thermal problem here in the hot desert south west.
I have a mastercool cooler and i need to clean the
CLEANING PADS My pads are 3 years old. (1) I tried soaking them in Vinegar & water which helped. (2) I then sprayed them with a hose nozzle, that helped also. We live in AZ so the dust storms can be horrendous and I still had build up. (3) So I took a variable speed drill and a wire brush and removed more. (4) Then ,as these filters are made of a wood by product, I took a belt sander ...they look good now. (5) Now when I reinstall them I am going to change the pads so pads facing outside will be facing inside, keeping the 45 degree forward and down. This last step I haven't tried, but it should work.
We have a Vulcan Bonaire evaporative cooling unit
could be the float valve is stuck or has some object blocking it so it cant cut off the water flow..( adjusting the float hight, or cleaning will solve this) or could be the plastic inserts that carry the pads are cracked & allowing water to escape the unit.( replace the pad carrier)..
If your going up on the roof to fix it... you may as well get a onedose cartridge from the hardware shop & put that in the tank whilest your up there...

There is a float in the evaporative cooler that will let water in when the trough is low and then when it fills, should shut the water off. I would check to make sure that the float arm is not corroded or misaligned.

No! The unit needs air flow across the grills for it to cool properly. But your unit should be shades so an awning over it would help. We use a piece of camoflage netting over ours and it seems to help quite a bit.
Mastercool doesn't seem to be getting enough
If the pads are old replace them. Take a panel off and look at the water dist. tubes if plugged, best method to remove it and use compressed air blow from the center, and let it rip, the basket maybe dirty. Good luck
