You don't have to have a hood over a stove. If you do though it removes all steam and odours. The grill also catches all the cooking fats. Your kitchen will stay a lot cleaner if you have one.

Hello janicejoh679, there is no manual for YOU to clean the oven, it's a self cleaning oven. Okay, please pardon my loose sense of humor.
A friend of mine was able to get a free replacement instruction manual from Tappan off of their website several weeks ago, I think she typed, " tappan", in the google search bar to find their official website.
I hope the info helps you,
Good luck!

It sounds like your oven glow rod, is defective. This is the electronic pilot lite for the unit.

THIS IS A GAS PRODUCT, INCORRECT REPAIR CAN CAUSE A EXPLOSION, AND DEATH CAN OCCUR. IF YOU DO HAVE THE PROPER TOOLS SUCH AS MANOMETER AND LEAK DETECTORS, I SUGGEST YOU CONTACT A SERVICE COMPANY

Check the amp draw on the ignitor/glowbar. It should be at least 3.2 amps or it won't light the oven. You may think it is working because you can see it glowing but it could be weak.

Replaced the igniter. The parts guy told me that the amperage changes with age and use; thus the igniter still glows, but it takes much longer to operate the gas valve with the reduced amperage. Cost - $70.14

Hi,
The most likely problem is that the bake element would have gone bad.Check the wiring that comes off the control board. If you have an ohm meter check the continuity of the bake element if there is continuity then replace the electronic control. If there is no no continuity replace the element
Thank you!

Hello,

That one problem with electronics kept for a longer period, one thong or the order will be damage on trying to use back.

Switches, control modules or igniters can go bad on a stove with electronic ignition. Use the following guide to test these devices.
  1. Check that the stove is plugged in, there is power to the outlet, and the circuit breaker hasn’t tripped. Spark ignition stoves need electricity to power the igniters. If your oven light turns on, you have power.
  2. Test if the switch is at fault by turning a functioning burner to the “Light” position while simultaneously turning the one that’s not working to “Light.” If the burner that wasn’t working now comes on, the burner has a bad switch. See Photo 1for instructions on replacing a switch.
  3. One at a time, turn each burner dial to “Light” for three seconds, then off again. Watch the igniters to see if they spark while you’re doing this. (Turning off the kitchen lights may help you see them.) Replace the module if none of the igniters sparks. This is a common problem. if the above troubleshooting did not solve the problem, then,
  4. Call in a pro to test the igniters. Igniters rarely fail, but they are difficult to test.
Take care.
