Let me ask you a few question please. Is the picture also bowed. when television have the multcolored effects it points to a problem with what is know as convergence cuircits. The second question is when you go into setup menu under customer menu setup can you locate convervgence options. I ask this because these set have a common problem in this area. Could be due to the Horizontal output or the flyback transformer shorted

check your tv power supply

Go to Menu then Setup Look for Convergence, If you do not see Convergence in the menu, then you have a blowed Fuse on the Deflection board.

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
• Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.



You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Solution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.


Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Solution #2


What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc

This rca chasis 222 set has the cpnvergence divided among 3 diffrent circuit boards. how often does it pop in and out? is this all of the colors or just one. is the picture curved in at top and bottom when this happens. intermitant problems are characteristic of a faulty connection or a componet aproaching failure. if the picture is curved in then i suspect it could be related to the convergence power board. if it just one color it might be the convergence amp board. i am here to help so just let me know and i will do my best to see what i can do

this is an indication of a faulty front button assembly

Find a local tech and have him replace the convergence amplifiers.

hello, have you tried your menu setting clicking on auto focus, if this does not adjust then you may have a fault with convergance ic these are 2 big black chip that sit a metal frame called a heatsink they are usually located behind tuner board also there will be some resistor in front of the ic and 2 capacitors at either end these will need to tested as well, it's quite a big job to do yourself even harder if you have no electronic exprience hop you can get it fixed good luck

Try this with TV off Press and hold Vol- and CH- at same time untill TV comes on release this should be in service menu now. No Convergence in menu means Blowed Fuse FL231
It is located on right side of FBT flyback transfomer there is 3 of them in a roll smallm brown rectrangler looking caps BUT are Fuses it will be the one in the Middle. Partstore .com has them.
