Whats the error code 42?
I think this is a DLP tv and has a special fan deep inside the works. I think, not sure, but you can google around to find more information that error code 42 is that fan having failed or disconnected somehow.
I have a constant blinking green light
It usually means big trouble. But first turn the set off, unplug the power cord for a couple of hours and then try again.
If still blinking, count the number of blinks and google for Mitsubishi blinking code. You can look for specific information and troubleshooting with the model number found on the back of the set.
Mitsubishi wd65736 has a dark bar across top screen
If the old lamp still works, I would try it and check results... it may be dim, but if the dark bar is gone then the new lamp (or the lamp housing) is either defective or misaligned. On the Mitsu WD65736 there are two options for lamp replacement, either (1) you can just replace the lamp itself or (2) for just a few dollars more you can obtain a complete lamp cartridge (module) with the lamp already installed. I recommend the latter method because you must not *ever* touch the lamp bulb with your bare fingers, as to do so will significantly shorten the life of the new lamp.
Also try pulling out the lamp module and inspect it as well as where it plugs in on the back of the TV.
Why did you change the chip? If you got the replacement chip the legal way (direct from Mitsubishi parts) I would get on the phone with them. Mitsu generally won't send out a replacement flash chip unless you open a repair ticket with them for a known/documented problem for which they have a patch. Note well that they will otherwise *NOT* give you the latest firmware without a reason. Simply wanting to have the latest & greatest is not considered a valid reason. On the other hand, if someone shared their flash ram with you and you burned your own chip, then you are on your own. Just the act of inserting the new chip will cause it to download the new image from the chip and then automatically erase the chip Hopefully you backed up your original flash chip and can go back to the original firmware. FWIW, the **only** Mitsu firmware patch I'm aware of for this particular model had something to do with being unable to pair it with a cable card.
If all else fails, there is a very extensive (thousands of posts) on AVSFORUM dot com for the Mitsubishi WD series. Search for your model. One of the posters there even did a full documentation along with pictures showing how to disassemble & clean the lense assy. Don't bother asking for firmware there as it is a violation of avs forum board ethics for any member to post links to or share copyrighted firmware. Good luck!!!
How to reset tv after a storm
Does the satellite receiver power up? Usually they go through a test sequence when trying to reconnect, i.e., there is some picture output to the TV even when a satellite is unavailable. Did the input on the TV get changed? Try cycling through all the inputs. Do you have any other video devices, like a BlueRay or DVD player? Do they work? Divide and conquer, figure out what does work, then look deeper into what does not.
