How to turn Netgear WNR834B into a repeater

I don't think the Netgear WNR834B is capable of acting as a repeater but there is another solution. I would decide where I want to put the Netgear WNR834B for best coverage and then do the following. Go buy the Powerline Ethernet Adapters of your choice and put one at the main connection and plug a ethernet cable into a open switch port. Second go to where the repeater is to be located and plug the 2nd Powerline Ethernet Adapters in and connect to the Netgear WNR834B LAN port. Be sure to turn off DHCP on the Netgear WNR834B and assign a IP address that is not used. I normally use the highest address in the last octet so that I can remember for management. xxx.xxx.xxx.254. I hope this helps you.

The remote device or resource won't accept the connection

Try restarting your router. If that doesn't work than check if you didn't accidentally hit the wireless button on your laptop as many people tend to do this and not realize it.

NetGear router-no lights

No lights means either no AC power or a dead router.
If you have a multi-meter, you can test the voltage and amperage being emitted by the power-adapter brick.

Otherwise, it's better to spend $50 to buy a replacement, than it is to spend $50 on the time of a computer technician's "trouble-shooting" efforts.

Installation?

You need to "dial in" to your router. In your browser window, type 192.168.1.1 This will display a dialogue box asking for a username and password. [user name: admin] [ password: password] From here it is very easy to setup with lots of help displayed in the right hand column. TIP: do not change the login details as if you forget them, you cannot get into the router again. All machines on your network must have a unique IP but if you set to DHCP the router will provide the ip's automatically.
