I have a Sony 626 6 disk CD player / stereo. I
The board that reads the discs is giong out, it is not readind the discs properly. Repairing it is sometimes more expensive than buying a new one.You did get alot of use out of it, right? You got your monies worth...
My Sony CFD SO1 keeps skipping/display light keeps flashing
That is an electronic problem. Probably a just-about-to-break cable in the motor of the CD drive, that sometimes causes a short and turns off the unit, or sometimes makes it to comport erratically and produce the buzzy sound. If you have electronics knowledge, then you may open and check the wiring harnesses. If don't, take it to your local electronics repair.
My cfd-510 radio wont play cd's how can i fix it?
Open up the top and try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails to resolve the problem, then the optics need to be replaced. These units use KSS-150 optics, I think. These are still available (or a substitute) for around $20 for the part.

When I press play, my tape player eats the tape.
that means that the uptake wheel is not turning. typically this is caused by a rubber band that is insde the transport mechanism that connects the motor to the wheel.
if you are comfortable taking the device apart, you will need to find the right band and just pop it on.
Power Chord missing
Glen,
These types of radios typically use a very similar power cord. Your local electronics store will carry it. IF you want to order online, try MCM Electronics.
I need information on how
My solution was to get my son to e-mail me the list of instructions that I couldn't find with my machine. The instructions, although vague, were very helpful!
My boombox is displaying the word "Protect" in the display. ???
The protect message indicates that there is a problem with the final stage of the amplifier section. This unit will require repair as a reset will not clear this. There is an audio amp IC inside that needs to be replaced. Figure on about $15 or so for the part.

CD player skips
Try cleaning the lens. If you can see the lens when you open it to put a cd in, you can clean the lens yourself with a q-tip. Use a very small amount of alcohol or windex, just enough to make the tip of the q-tip moist, and rub it on the glass lens in a circular motion. then use the dry end of the q-tip to dry it off. You can then try another cd and see if it plays good. If so, you are good to go, if not, you probably need a new laser pick up. If it needs a new laser, you may want to just buy a new boombox. The repair will most likely cost as much or more than a new boombox would.
If you are not able to see the lens and clean it yourself, try using a cleaning disc. They do not work as good, but they can help. You run it for about 20 seconds, or whatever the directions state. Then give it another try, see if it plays better.
Those are the only reasonable steps for an end user who is not experienced with repairing these type of units. anything else you may end up trying could just cause more damage to the unit, if you are not experienced with electronic repairs.
I hope this helps, let me know if you need more help.

Sony CFG 656
The laser is eithr dirty or damaged.
Open the lid and look at the laser eye. Take a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol and gently swab the lens, then IMMEDIATLY blow dry with some canned air. If this does not fix it, the laser needs replaced. It is probably a KSS-213 (you can usually peek in the hole that the lens slides along to see), which is widely available on the internet for around $15. Changing it is best left to a service shop.
