Magnavox vcr/dvd combo the vcr part only plays for 8 seconds
What you have is called a transport problem in the VCR unit--the mechanism is either jammed or something in it that loads the tape is bad.Every time it is used it cycles to self check the mechanism--if it fails it is usually a belt bad or a gear assembly not working.Someone would have to open unit to see what is happening.
Wont play dvd
The problem is the laser pickup assembly, buy a DVD cleaning kit and follow the instructions, if no change! the assembly must be replaced, not cost effective to repair.

Recording Error, Can not record on this disc, E 4
Recently started getting the same error message. I thought it was because I was getting to close to full or something that was trying to over fill the discs.
Have tried EP and LP and this just started when I had a disc set to record to the end. I can't even open that one or finalize it. The rest do the same. They are working fine and when the error comes up, ZAP the disc is dead, no access.
I also tried putting the same disc into another Magnavox DVD recorder, still no access. These are both the most reliable recorders I've ever owned and I've had a number.
magnavox error message dvd
"e 6 2a031000 can not record on this disc."
I suspect at this point, a batch of cheap Nexxtech DVDs. Also it's possible that it's a heat problem with the recorder?
Once the disc goes into error mode, it's unreadable and all recordings that haven't been written to the TOC become invisible, but that time is forever lost on the DVD.
DVD is visibly (looking at recording surface) FULL but the supposed record time isn't used up. Data error. Discs reporting wrong size. Try a different brand of DVD.
Why will the power light not remain on and why does the recorder not recognize a DVD brand that has been used for the past two years?
HelloIt power supply regulator baord should be checked for any loose soldering points. Some coponents in it will heat up to an extent while the set works. Repeated heating and cooling may make solder points ot the components that get heated, and cause interruption to switching signals. Just take out the power baord, and resolder all the suspected doler points, by applying a little more solder, without making any solder bridge short in between adjecent solder points. If this do not help you contact the nearest Philips Authorised Service Center to get this set repaired. On rare occations, the supply board as card basis may be replaced. OK.
My vcr tapes play too fast
If I remember correctly, VCR players had three speed settings. SP-short play, LP-Long play, and SLP- Super long play. The vcr is supposed to be able to tell what speed the tape was recorded at, thus playing it back at the correct speed. If your unit has lost the ability to sense the speed the tape was recorded then you will have to set the speed manually, if possible. Other than that I would have to say it's time to get a new vcr.
Magnavox DVD recorder...finalizing problem
The manual isn't too helpful either - "Recording error other than below," it says. There are a couple of possibilities. The Philips/Magnavox/Funai recorders automatically record in VR mode when you use +R discs (there are two possible recording modes - V Mode and VR Mode). Is it possible that you have switched disc types lately? If you are currently using -R discs, switch to +R and vice versa. The manual states that +/-RW discs take a while to initialize.
I couldn't find a full factory reset on that one, so you may have to unplug the unit for about 20 minutes to restore all the defaults.
Another possibility: Finalization requires some extra space on the disc. If you accidentally pressed the button that changes the recording format between SP, EP, LP, etc., you may not be able to fit the same amount of video on the disc that you were able to fit before. You can change the format by pressing the Disc Mode button on the remote - LP Mode will fit 3 hours worth of recordings onto a 2-hr disc and is considered a "medium quality" recording. Try changing the Disc Mode to LP and see if it will finalize the next disc that you record. The downside of this possibility is that the discs that you have already made that are giving you errors are not "fixable" - you will will have to re-record the shows to a new disc in LP mode.
Good luck!

Tape is stuck, can't remove it
I remove a stuck tape from a VCR by taking off the outside cover. (My unit was held together by 5 screws.) This allowed me to access the tape and check where it was locked. I had to loosen a twisted tape from the mechanism and then I could eject it. (Note: I unplugged the deck before removing the cover.) I hope this helps. Cindy Wells (I've been fortunate; I've only had to do this on VCR units (not VCR/DVD) that were out of warranty. If your MWR20V6 is still in warranty, you may not want to open the case at home.)
When I turn it on it turns its self off
Had the same problem with my Panasonic DVD recorder. I went ahead and took it apart. About 5 or 6 screws to get the top off and then the tray will be visible. Plug it is, it should open up. While it is open, spray CRC Electronic cleaner over the entire unit. That should remove any dirt and dust and end the problem. I know it did for me.
