Bunn Pour-O-Matic VPR Questions & Answers
Can anyone supply me with detailed photos of the wiring to a Bunn-O-Matic VPR?
The VPR manual is on the bunn.com website. (Free)
*** the following is for information only as all repairs should be performed by a qualified Bunn tech. ***
* The VPR has two heaters in the brewer. There is an element inside the water tank (cylinder) which is wrapped in a warmer blanket which is also heated. (Like and electric blanket)
* There will be one or more warmer "Hot Plates".
* Most VPRs will power up as soon as it's plugged in. In other words there is no On/Off switch (though this may have changed in newer models or called a 'Vacation' switch that turns off all the internal heaters.)
* Each additional warmer plate will have it's own on/off switch.
* Internal heater(s) have thermal fuses on each heater. There may be a 2nd thermal fuse or High Limit on the tank - it looks like a disk with two tabs. The thermal fuses look like diodes that sometimes are enclosed in a plastic tube. There should be continuity on all good fuses. If it's open then replace.
* The element is straight forward. Similar to what you would find in a water heater. Which is basically what this brewer is. Just on a smaller scale.
* There is a bulb style thermostat wired in series with the main heater element. This is should be set to boil the water but it should not boil constantly. If it's always boiling then it's shorted. If it does not switch on when the dial is turned clockwise. Then it's open. Need to replace.
* Okay final note; I'm guessing the real question here is what the wires look like in the real brewer and not a bunch of lines on a paper. Most Bunn brewers come with a schematic (electrical) diagram under the top lid or inside a panel. So I've had that problem myself even though I have an Electronics background. You just have to take your time and follow each wire to the component. It's all there. But again, this should be performed by a Qualified Tech.

Why is bunn vpr-blk leaking
Is it leaking from the spray head where the filter basket goes or from somewhere else?

Water empty
I usually siphon the water out with a 3/8 poly hose. I take the lid off and pull the thermostat bulb out of the tank. I then insert the hose and siphon till empty.

Over time, my coffee has become acrid and bitter.
There may be some buildup in the machine other than in the pot itself. To test this, try running the brew cycle with no beans. Taste the hot water. If it's acrid and bitter, your problem lies in buildup (such as the basket). Otherwise, if the hot water just tastes like hot water, then the temperature of the water has probably become too high (that will make coffee tastes more bitter). If this is the problem, there's probably no fix (just make sure you fill the reservoir with cold, not hot, water).

I think my bunn-o-matic VPR needs cleaning and I do not have a manual for this machine. Can you advise on how to do this?
To clean the vpr you will need to take the lid off the machine. Be sure to unplug while doing this. First clean the water tray. You can unscrew the nut holding this tray and clean the tray in your sink. Put the tray back in and put the lid back on. Plug coffee maker in. Fill one coffee pot with vinegar and pour it in machine. After the water finishes coming out let the coffee maker sit overnight. Before you start filling the maker with water at least 6 times, be sure to clean the spray head. Make sure the 5 or 6 holes are free and clear of any build up. Then start with fresh water. Fill the coffee pot with fresh clean water and pour into machine. Let it finish and do this at least 6 times. If you can still taste or smell the vinegar repeat until you cant.

My bunn pour o matic coffee brewer will not brew.
Hello Doug,This is a clogging issue. Meaning it needs to be cleaned. So what I want you to do, if first read this manual that I am sending you via a e-mail link. Just copy and paste link in browser; I am positive it is just clogged. In the manual it will show you some tips on how to unclog it with tooth pick etc... then you want to flush whole system with water and vinegar. Here is the link to put in browser. http://www.bunn.com/pdfs/commercial/manuals/10424.0000.pdfMike
