The first thing to check in this is the mic. If the mic is fine, then the next thing would be to check the final transistor. If it blows, then you will not transmit.

Bought radio at Hamfest. Hooked

The guy who was really not a tech probably didn't hook the mic wires back to the mic jack correctly. that will cause the radio not to TX or RX.

Next time make sure the tech knows what he is doing, and check on line for cb radio shop blacklists to make sure that one isn't on the list.

This guy owes you either a new radio, or pay to have that radio repaired.

If both echo boards didn't work, he doesn't know what he is doing, because he put them in wrong.

I have a ranger cb radio and it just started where

It sounds like something has gone bad in the receive section of the radio.

It could be the RF gain knob is no good.(make sure its turned all the way up.

It could be a resistor on the board loosing value in the receive section. If your radio only has 1/6th watt resistors, its very likely.

At any rate, if its not something simple like a bad RF gain knob, or that you just don't have it turned up, then its going to need a tech.

Unless you have a schematic and service manual and have time to trace it down.

Some things you can try..

Double check all the usual stuff, no matter how simple. Coax, antenna, grounds etc.

then, you can open the cover of the radio, look at the wires connected to the RF gain knob. Should be 2 wires. If you have a soldering iron, you can unsolder them and hot wire them together. this will make your RF gain full.

If its not working after that, it needs a tech to find the bad part.

If you turn off the radio, and disconnect the power wire for a long period of time, and then hook it up and turn it on and the receive is there for several minutes and fades away, its most likely a bad resistor. When it gets warm from running, it looses value.

It could be a resistor loosing value, a cap unloading when it shouldn't. It needs some one who knows how to trace this stuff down on the board.

My best guess without having the radio here with my meter is that a resistor has gone bad. its been known to happen especially if the radio has really small, 1/6th watt resistors. Depending on when it was made, it may have them.

the other thing that could have happened is that if a big radio keyed up next to you, with a lot of wattage, it could have blown the receive.

Here's the link to download the manual if you don't have it:

I suspect however, that the absence of the green LED, the red probably is a warning about excessive VSWR which can damage the output section of the radio; you need a better antenna match.

Hi i have a ranger 6900f turbo

http://www.rangerusa.com/downloads.html

This link will get you to the service manual and schematic. These two PDF will give you enough data to build new boards from scratch. Unfortunately radios are very complicated so it's pretty hard to nail down a problem like this without taking it apart. I don't thinkit's the power diode for a couple reasons 1st they are rated at 200v and 1kv piv (the amount of reverse bias voltage it will survive) 2nd the diodes are rated for a forward surge of 30A which is easily supplied by your battery but the fuses would have blown. If your handy I would disconnect the power and pop it open to look for burnt components. the only solution I have is re check the power connections On rare (very rare won the lottery) occasions
a bad connection will show voltage but when the radio loads it down it won't carry current.

Sorry this is much help. I'm happy to answer any more questions.
