Cannot adjust speed on a vintage Technics SL-B30 Turntable

SOLVED!!! I had the exact same problem after my Technics SL-BD35 had been stored away for years in my attic. The problem is not on the circuit board. It's in the motor. There is a magnet on the motor spindle that is picked up by a sensor to detect speed so the circuit can regulate to the adjusted speed. That magnet came loose from the spindle and was sitting still. No spinning magnet means no feedback to the speed circuit so the circuit cranks the motor speed to max. I used superglue to glue the magnet back on the spindle. TADAA!! Turntable works like new. High-pitched, repetitive squeaking noise from under platter on 1210MK2

Make sure there is nothing on the magnet part of the platter. Also, sometimes, the screws that hold down the plastic protective cover underneath the platter might not be seated all the way. Lastly, look at the bottom of the magnet, and make sure that it is in tact, and nothing is bent, broken, or cracked.

Other than that, try switching out the platters from your other turntable, and see if the problem persists. You need to rule out what it is not, before you can proceed with finding out what is the problem. So if the noise moves to the other turntable, you know the issue is with the platter. If the noise remains on the same turntable, then you can rule out the platter being the culprit, and can isolate the issue to the turntable. I've never heard of this, and I've fixed well over 3000 Technics 1200MK2/MK3/MK5 turntables in the past 10 years. I am also considered THE 1200s MASTER. So, I am not sure what could be causing this noise, other than some foreign matter. If your in the NY metro area, bring it on by, and I'll take a look at it, or give us a call, and I'll try and refer someone locally for you:

I have two 1210s, a mk 2 and a mk 5. When I let

Being the older model, the chances are that the drive belt on the Mk2 turntable has got worn and shiny with use. It may also have stretched a bit. If you are using the tables for 'scratching', the fact that you are holding onto the turntable when the motor is running is placing a strain on the belt that it is not really designed for. I would recommend changing the belt - you can easily find spare belts for sale on the internet

Hi my new yamaha v373 amp needs a preamp to run a turntable so was going to use my previous onkyo txsv424 just wondering the best way to connect these two?

The turntable output cables go into the input of the magnetic cartridge preamp. The output ones go into an a tape in or aux on the Onkyo. I'm assuming that it doesn't have a input that says deck on it. Apart from getting some good quality interconnects between the devices it's a very simple thing to do.

Only one speaker gives audio

Tried another needle and cleaned the contacts of the tonearm and this needle and recordddd? measured the connections from your rca cables to the tone arm output? How old is the unit and have you ever replaced the tonearmwire(in the arm itself, the standard one sucks) and the external rca cable. Then it's about time if you havent. The standard cables are outdated and it will cost you together about 100euro, wires are about 70 euro for in your arm and buy some nice rca cables for 30 euro, not from technics which lay on the shelves for over ten years. It really souns better. I have a person which makes real nice cables for just 40 euro a pair, shielded , good rca plugs(i have phono outputs on all tables, no pcb, but those are wbt and are 100 euro a pair. The cables from that men really sounded good, while the denon distributeur sold me some different oyaide cables and i noticed nothing. The 1200 mk2 series are now really at an age that you need to refurbish the caps and resistors and wires and the spindlebearing and housing.... And don't let it be done by a so called service centre, do it yourself, 40 euro job for capacitors and 30 for the spindle and he is as new. greetings
