How to specify fax machine to dial '9' before fax

Hello ilay,

This procedure is from the Brother FAX-4100e FAQ link:

Storing Speed Dial numbers:
You can store Speed Dial locations on your machine(*). Once you have programmed the Speed Dial number on your machine, you can dial the number by pressing Search/Speed Dial, #(Pound Sign), the Speed Dial number, and then Fax Start.
*The number of locations you can store varies by machines. Please refer to the User's Guide for your machine. The latest User's Guide is available in the Manuals section.

To store Speed Dial numbers follow the steps listed below:

1. Press Menu.
2. Press the left or right arrow key to select Fax and press Set.
3. Press the left or right arrow key to select Set Auto Dial or Set Quick Dial, and press Set.
4. Press the left or right arrow key to select Speed-Dial and press Set.
5. Use the dial pad to enter the location (Speed Dial number) where you wish to store the number and press Set.
6. Enter the number you want to store (up to 20 digits) and press Set.

Note:
If you want to enter a pause in the dialing sequence (to wait for an outside line, for example), press Redial/Pause as you're entering digits. Pressing Redial/Pause enters a 3.5-second pause when the number is dialed, and a dash appears on the screen. If you need a pause longer than 3.5 seconds you can press Redial/Pause as many times as needed.
7. Use the dial pad to enter the name or company name (up to 15 characters) and press Set.
If you want to store the number without a name, just press Set.
8. Return to STEP 5 to store another Speed Dial number or press Stop/Exit to exit the menu.

Error 11...what does it mean?

Error 41 means there is a major problem with the printhead, usually
requires a print head replacement. My advice is to take it to a
Brother service centre while it is under warranty. If it's out of
warranty then it is cheaper to purchase a new, non Brother model. If you have been using non-Brother cartridges or refills, they can have too much water in them and it erodes the print head after a while. Usually just after warranty has expired!

How do you shut off the 4100e?

There is no switch. Most fax machines are expected to be left on in case a fax call comes in the middle of the night. If that's not a concern in your case, unplug the machine. If the plug is hard to reach under a desk or something, you might want to get a power strip with a switch on it. As long as you're at it, get one with surge protection for both the power and phone lines, and your fax might be saved from sudden death in the event of some guy driving into a power pole down the street.

Brand new fax when we send a fax it is received at

Slight possibility that your sending in Photo Mode, most likely the machine was damaged during shipping and the CCD unit or scanner is out of alignment. Just make a copy....if it comes out blurry then it is the scanner. I would return it for another machine. If the copy comes out nice and clear then there is nothing wrong with the scanner.

Intellifax 4100e is not printing faxes says

try parameter reset function (this will change some settings back to default)
hit these keys all within 2 seconds!!!
function (or menu) * 2 8 6 4
should say maint.mode: then hit
"9 1 set" and then "9 9 set" That will usually clear out any brainfarts in the system. This also works for code 77 errors (9 9 set is the actual parameter reset)

Brother Intellifax 4100 unable to send fax but can receive

Is the fax sensing the paper you put in to send out? Check the little black levers that poke into the document area. They should move freely when you touch them gently with a finger, and return quickly when you take your finger off. If it can't sense the paper it won't try to send a fax. If, when the paper is inserted, the display changes from whatever it said to anything else, the paper is being sensed.
Let's try dialing manually. Just left of the 1 key is a button labeled "Hook." Pressing that will take the telephone line "off-hook," like picking up the receiver of a phone. You should hear a dial tone -- if not, try adjusting the speaker volume with the buttons just right of the numbers. Once you get a dial tone, dial a number, whether it's another fax, or your own cell phone. As far as the phone company is concerned, your fax is just a phone, calling another phone. If you can make a call, and the phone at the other end rings, we're closing in on the problem. If you can dial another fax machine manually, you can still turn this into a fax call, assuming there's paper ready to fax. After the distant fax answers, touch the Start button, and your fax should take over. If you can't dial manually, try unplugging your fax from the phone line, and replacing it with a regular phone. Can you make calls with it? If not, the fax is no longer a suspect - you have a phone line problem.
Are you at a business where you need to dial 9 to get an outside line? It's easy to forget that detail when you're using a fax, but it has to dial out just like any other phone on the system.
If you can't get a dial tone at all with the fax, but it works with the phone alone, the main board in the fax is probably bad. If you can dial manually, using the Hook switch, but the same number doesn't work when you dial xxx-xxxx-Start, that sounds like a main board problem, too.
