Radio Shack TRC-447 CB Radio - Page 5 Questions & Answers
Tunning the antenna on radio shack cb trc-447
After installing the antenna, follow these steps to adjust the
standing wave ratio(SWR).
1. Turn on the CB.
2. Set S/RF/SWR/CAL to CAL.
3. Key the Mic and rotate SWR CAL so the meter points
to CAL.
4. Unkey Mic.
5. Set S/RF/SWR/CAL to SWR.
6. Key Mic again and note the actual measurement on
the SWR scale. Refer to the following table to interpret
the reading.
1:1 - 1.5 Great
1.5 - 2:1 OK
2:1 - 3:1 Not So Good
Higher than 3.1:1 Terrible
The ideal standing wave ratio (SWR) is 1:1, or a meter
reading of 1 on the SWR meter's top scale. A SWR ratio
of 1.5:1 to 2:1 is excellent for most mobile CB antenna
applications.
Check the SWR on Channel 1 and Channel 40
If the SWR is higher on 1, make the antenna longer
If the SWR is higher on 40, make the antenna shorter
Most antenna's are adjustable. Make small adjustments at a time.
No sound every thing else seems working
if you have an external speaker plug it in to the PA jack in the back of the radio key up the radio....does it make any noise? If not you're IC Chip Is bad...take it to a shop
I was wondering what was the range for the
Antenna :
-should be tuned, have good coax with no pinches, whip is centered over highest flat metal surface, no metal beside adjacent to whip, power is wired to battery direct, not to ignition or cigg lighter. whip is wiped clean of corrosion, whip is up, longer is better.
Praire City car-to-car: 15-20 km's
Praire Rural car-to-car: four-thirds over the horizon. Probably 60 km's.
Alot further over water.
Less within trees and mountains/valleys.
Google "Ham radio" & "ducting" "inversion" "skip" "sun-spots"
these refer to a condition where a radio signal getting stuck between the upper and lower atmospheres and travel intact for 1000's of km's (canada to mexico for example)
Will you reply to this post?
Not uncommon, Sun spots, all the electronic trash in the air from tvs wifi etc. also make sure you tuning is as tight as possible so you will be sending out and receiving the cleanest signal possible
Clipping the Mod limitter
DO NOT CLIP THE LIMITER! You may wind up with splattering audio. The best thing you could do is find the modulation pot and turn it a bit to achieve more modulation. I am not familiar with your radio, so I could not tell you where that pot is. You may be disappointed in the results if you clip the limiter.
Catching about 3 pounds of noise!
Good Evening,
I would think the noise you are picking up is atmospheric noise ( space noise as some of them call it ) or also known as sun spot noise ( skip ). Since we are in a downward skip pattern with the sun spots the atmosperic niose remains a bit higher than we may like. When the niose comes in, it appears as a static niose, so if this is the niose you are experiancing, I assume this should quiet a bit as time goes along for the next few years. ( until skip conditions start on an upswing again ) This happens in a cycle every 7 to 11 years on a normal basis. One thing you can do is purchase a noise chopper devise. They sell for between 20 and 30 dollars and can be switched to a low chop ( filter ) or a high chop ( filter ). You need to know that if you use one of these devises to illimenate noise, it that you also illimanate signal. ( you receive less ). I hope in some way this answer has helped. Have prob wit cb radio
I WOULD CHECK THE COAX CONNECTION @ THE ANT HAVE SOMEONE MOVE THE WIRE AT THE ANT CONNECTION WHILE YOU LISTEN INSIDE IF THERE A LOOSE GROUND YOU WILL HEAR IT ON THE RECEIVER SIDE.. ALSO CHECK YOUR MATCH WITH AN SWR METER.. DON'T TRUST THE ONE ON THE RADIO IF YOU HAVE ONE GOOD LUCK
PRESIDENT ZACHARY WITH LOW RECEIVE
adjust the squeelch tuning, the antena is also a factor and the location, the main receive gain adjustment is inside the unit, rf transformer inside the unit in the receive stage of the circuit.
Cb radio
I tried looking up cb radio shops on google maps for you, but only find Radio Shack. You can always check close to your bigger truk stops, that is the normal place for an actual cb shop to be located. You can also ask the truck stop employees where a local cb radio shop is located.
If you were closer to Texas, I would help you out. But most major cities have a cb shop close to the major truck stops, such as Petro, Flying-J, Pilot, Loves. Some even have cb radio shops inside them.
If I can be of more assistance, please feel free to email me:
