Hi Mark, need a bit more info on this one... not sure what a "gb" file is, perhaps you could do a 'Show in Finder', right click (or opt. click) on it a try 'Open With' and see what app choices you get? Cheers, John

Charging macbook

Yes, port replacement is possible. Although with the magsafe connector that is supposed to eliminate the kind of stress or strain that would break the port and require it to be replaced. Care to offer more information about your mac model, example macbook 2,1? I’m happy to help further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/matt_7e951e081251ffbc

Mac stuck on mute

There is something stuck in the macbook's earphone jack. If not, it could be that the 'mute' button was pressed hard enough causing it to be jammed. Try restarting the computer or inserting a earpiece into the jack to undo the process. Alternatively, you may wanna head to the nearest IT service centre as attempting to repair a mac on your own could result in a billshock if the process goes wrong.

How do i fix filter problem

You didn't provide much detail, so bear with me for awhile. There are a number of possibilities. Gmail It may not seem intuitive. First of all, are you able to login to your alternate email, you needed one to setup Gmail? The reason I am asking this is that the first thing to check is that your password is not correct. Remember that Gmail's password is case sensitive, so double check that you have entered it correctly. Next are you able to read/send/delete/archive your Gmail from a browser? To troubleshoot this, if you don't have the Chrome browser, get it. In the Chrome browser, at the initial screen, click on skip for now. Then go to https://www.gmail.com. Are you able to login to Gmail? If you can login to Gmail from the Chrome browser. If your password is incorrect, and you don't remember it, you may request it to be reset and the new temporary password will be sent to your alternate email, so you'll need do access that account to read your password and the instructions to using it. Once your password is correct, or you are able to get in to Gmail in Chrome, you'll need to confirm a couple of settings in Gmail. Click on the gear, and select Settings. Along the top you'll see several settings, select Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Next, ensure that POP is disabled and IMAP is enabled. If that is not the current setting, change it. Click on Disable POP and click on Enable IMAP. After making those changes, you MUST click on the Save Changes button. If you miss that step, it won't change. Mac OS X Mail App Now everything is setup correctly in Gmail. The next is in the Mac OS X Mail app. In the Mail app, select the Mail menu item and go to Preferences... then select Gmail or whatever you called it. There will be three tabs shown. Select Account Information. Then in there, make sure that your Email Address is your fully qualified Gmail address, meaning <user id>@gmail.com. Then, go down and make sure that the Incoming Mail Server is set to imap.gmail.com. Then the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is set to Gmail. TLS Certificate should be set to None. Now go to the Advanced tab. Then make sure all the top half check boxes are checked except make that the Send large attachments with Mail Drop not selected. Leave the IMAP Path Prefix blank. Then make sure that Port is set to 993 and that Use SSL is checked. Also that Allow insecure authentication is NOT checked. Check the Use IDLE command if server supports it. Now close that Accounts pane and close and restart Mail. It should already connect and be on-line, but just to be sure, restart Mail. This should solve any setting issues. Let me know if you are able to login via the Web Gmail, via the Chrome browser but it still shows as off line in Mail. I cannot open iPhoto on my MacBook, missing python framework. Will allow remote access using TeamViewer for help.

It looks like your version of iPhoto may not be compatible with OSX 10.9.5. Can you check which version of iPhoto you have installed... go to Applications, select the iPhoto icon, press the "command" and "i" key at the same time, and see what it says under 'version'... I would suggest launching the App Store application and checking for any updates, especially anything to do with iPhoto. If you've updated iPhoto but the library is an older version, then this may help: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6469058

How can i delete old stuff on my mac laptop?

Click anywhere on the desktop that is literally empty space and next to the apple at the top left corner of the desktop FINDER will appear.
Under the File menu, the first item is New Finder Window. Click on that.
A new Finder Window appears with icons for folders for Documents, Desktop, etc.
Find the "old stuff" you want to delete by highlighting it with your mouse and holding down the "apple" aka Command key next to your spacebar on either side you may select multiple items.
When all your "old stuff" is selected, drag the whole collection to your Trash Bin, which should be either at the right side or the bottom of your Dock, depending on whether it is located on the top bottom or one of the sides of your desktop.
Under FINDER at the top left corner of your desktop you will find the commands Empty Trash and Secure Empty Trash the latter of which commands has no key combination, the former of which can be accessed by a combination of Shift-Command-Backspace
Empty Trash simply removes the items, but Secure Empty Trash removes the items AND reclaims your disk space, so if your intention is to increase your disk space, use the menu item, not the key combination to Secure Empty Trash.
I have been illustrating these steps on OSX 10.4 (Tiger) and I do not believe the process is much different for 10.5 (Leopard) or 10.6 (Snow Leopard) so if you have any difficulties please get back to me.
