Reinstalled Xp.. Cant change resolution on Monitor or connect to internet. Reinstalled Xp.. Cant change resolution on Monitor or connect to internet, no modem driver and sound
In addition to installing the operating system (Windows XP) you will need to install the drivers for the system. If you system is a Dell Dimension 1100 you can get the drivers from this link:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_CEL_1100&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Driver installation order is:
Desktop system software (R121089.exe)
Intel Chipset Utility (R96614.exe)
Intel Video Driver (R104515.exe)
Audio Driver (R105155.exe)
Network Driver (R105786.exe)
Modem Driver (R133743.exe or R73044.exe)
Once you have all the drivers installed, then you can install your applications and configure your internet connection.

i added 256mb ram to my computer for a total of 512mb. when i boot up i get an error message saying i only have 256mb and press F1 to continue or F2 for setup. how do i make it recognize my memory? when i run Crucialscan, it says i have 512mb total memory, but the computer is not recognizing it
Are the memory cards the same? Try swapping the memory cards inside the computer. It is also important to go into the Setup (F2) once the new memory has been added. The setup keeps track of the hardware changes to your computer, and the additional memory needs to be saved in the Setup configuration. Please let me know what happens and thank you. Binary Bob

I tried to install a Belkin Wireless G USB network adapter to my Dell dimension 1100. download was perfect. But when I inserted the usb cable from the adapter to the computer I got an error message stating that I wasn't hooked up to a high speed usb port, I tried every usb port on the computer, and got the same error message. Does the Dimension 1100 have a high speed usb port? If not how can one be installed. Thanks for your time. Delvin King
Hi Delvin!
The 2 usb-ports on the front and the 3 back of your Dell is high speed ones, at least the manual says so, they are all USB 2.0.
If you cant get them work properly with the 2.0 usb speed, you can buy an high speed pci add-in- card and install it on your pc.
Here you can read about the "high speed usb" :
http://www.usb.org/developers/usb20/
And here is the manual and avalible drivers for your Dell:
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/manuals?~ck=ln&c=us&l=en&lnki=0&s=gen
Good luck to you M8!

My Disk drive door won't open up to allow my to install my disk. It makes the clicking noise like it wants to open it up - how do I get it to open?
Hi,
try to see if the cd/dvd drive would eject if you are outside of Windows. you can try it in the bios screen. to go there, restart your computer, then on the DELL logo, continuously tap on F2 key. once inside the bios screen, press the eject button of the cd/dvd drive.

how do i set it back to factory settings without the restor cd?
if it comes with windows 7 or vista you can try and tap f8 until you get a boot menu and there should be an option to repair your computer, if it's windows xp you're kinda screwed unless you can access the recovery partition.
