My Denon Receiver AVR-987 keeps turning itself

That is a common problem for many receivers. Over heating, amplifier overload etc. Are you playing material through it at a very loud volume for an extended period, particularly with a lot of bass? If so try turning it down and/or defeating any equalization or turning the bass control back to zero. If you moved the unit make sure it is getting enough air flow and that there is no other heat sources near it or anything sitting on top of it.

I have a Denon-987 receiver. I setup the speaker

There's no user parameter for "no sound during Test Tones" so a reset would be futile.

Carefully examine the front panel for clues like a misplaced Mute, Tape control or Multichannel Analog (EXT) Input selected.

Are your DD TV and DBS referring to the same source device or are they separate, say, cable Box and Sat Box?

Start over with the digital audio assignments for wherever you plugged in the digital audio cable from (guessing) your Cable TV box (recommended as "TV" is not usually a great source for audio).

The manual:

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Denon-AVR-987-Receivers-manual/id/696dj079/t/2/

You might also want to define the specific cabling of things if more is required. Exact point-to-point paths and cable styles for audio and video.

Our denon receiver keeps going off-

replace all the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. i had the exact same problem with mine and once i replaced the capacitors it powered up and stayed on and worked perfect.
these capacitors tend to fail as they're of poor quality.
this fault is very common on denon receivers, especially the later models.

hope this helps?

Im trying to hook up my wii to my surround sound

Connect all of your cables to your display and then connect another set of cables to your audio variable out from the television to the input you wish to get sound from on the receiver. Then make sure your tv is selected to the input you plugged the wii into, for example, Front video or Video 1 etc etc.

Durabrand 2.0 CH USB Speaker System

Hi, Based on your post/description, the Durabrand 2.0 CH USB Speaker System is a basic external speaker that plugs into your PC's speaker/headset output (green jack). It is supposed to get its power from the +5VDC supplied by the USB port. Some USB port have current limiting therefore it can be anywhere from 10 - 500 mA. The power requirement of your external Durabrand speaker maybe beyond what the PC's USB ports can supply. It does not need to be recognized by the OS since it only connects to the USB to get power but there is no data interaction. Perhaps what you can do is get an external +5VDC power supply whose output is in USB type connector. The current rating would depend on the requirement of your speaker. Offhand, if the speakers are not that big, probably a 1 Amp would do. This is of course assuming that the Durabrand speaker system is fully functional. If with an external power supply it is still a no go and you have verified that sound do come out of your green jack (with the use of an ordinary headset), then the Durabrand is defective. Hope this be of help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

How do i hook an

I'm assuming you want to play your i-pod through your reciever? If so, you need a male stereo mini to dual male RCA Y-cable (follow the link at the bottom for an example). The mini end goes into your i-pod. Plug both RCA's into the CD or PHONO inputs on the left side, center, as you face the rear of your reciever. Left(L) is usually white or grey and right(R) is the other color, usually red or orange.

I hope this gets you started. Ask again if you have more questions.

Component Video input not working for Video game consoles

Well, as far as I can tell, the WII does work, BUT...is it possible that your choice of INPUTS on the Denon unit may only process 720 or 1080 resolutions and not 480P which is the LIKELY output of Wii ! Can you swap your Xbox to the intended input on your Denon and see if you can set it up with that? If so, that's your problem. IF NOT, then dig into the Video Setup on the DENON a little deeper. We know for a fact the Wii does work correctly, we just need to know if Denon made ALL video Inputs capable of ALL Resolutions
