Did you look online or do you have a owners manuel? There is usually a factory set password such as 1-2-3-4 etc, unless you purchased it second hand and the previous owner custom set - then you have to contact the previous owner or Kenwood. Most people dont change the factory passwords. TRY KCAR (5227 ON A KEYPAD) uf that doesnt work read the forum post on: ecoustic.com. Good Luck

My remote control quit communicating

Hello,

Common faults are: some buttons not working, not working at all, corroded battery terminals. Often buttons are sticky because of some dirt accumulated over the years from the sticky little hands of your kids?
The hardest part of repair is often to open the covers. You do not need much experience in electronics repair to repair a remote. Also it is perfectly safe as there is no way to get an electric shock as they work with batteries.

step 1Test your remote with Digital Camera
Check your batteries first or buy new batteries. Once you have good batteries, you can test with a digital camera by pushing the buttons and having camera on and pointing to the infrared led. You should see red light if the remote is working. If no light comes up you obviously have a dead remote but do not despair and procede to the next step

step 2Open the remote control but there is a catch or a few catches.
Remove the screws if any. Sometimes screws may be hidden under a sticker or rubber feet. Often there are no screws at all but just plastic catches hidden so you have to be clever to open it without breaking the case. Use something blunt and flat toclick the covers open. This is often a challenge but should not be too difficult.

step 3Take a picture of every phase so you remember how to re-assemble
Since you are using a digital camera you might as well take pictures of the disassembly so re-assemly will be easier.

step 4Pull everything apart
Did you take a picture of the keyppad layout? Sometimes keypad is just one rubber membrane but sometimes the keys fall away like pieces of a Lego puzzle. And if the buttons are marked with numbers and functions you may struggle to re-assemble them in right order? Use a small plastic takeaway box or similar to store the bits so you don't lose parts.

step 5Inspect the circuit board and repair dry joints
Remotes are often dropped on the floor and may develope dry joints on the battery contacts or circuit board. Inspect the contacts and circuit board under good light with a magnifying lense or if lucky you might have a microscope or just a very good eyesight? Solder all suspicious joints. If there is a sign of water damage you can use methylated spirits and toothbrush to...

step 6Wash the covers and the buttons
Use a smal bowl or similar to wash and contain all the parts so you don't lose bits down the drain. Use old toothbrush to clean all button holes and buttons. Warm water with dishwash liquid does the job. Take particular care with those small buttons and clean them properly. If you can leave the bits to soak overnight they come clean easy. Ultrasonic cleaner would be goo...

step 7Rinse, drain and dry the parts
Rinse with warm water. Use a drainer to contain all the parts without losing small bits down the drain. As extra security use sink plug. Dry with a paper towel. Wipe the buttons dry individually as they may still have some dirt which makes them sticky when in use.

step 8Repair case and re-assemble
If there is damage to the case or buttons you need to do the required repairs. Use hot glue or super glue depending on fault. Let dry overnight if you had to glue something. Re-assemble bits in reverse order and make sure you have the buttons in right place and right way around. Small nicks and dents on plastic cover can often be repaired by heating carefully with a h...

step 9Test with Digital Camera
Test every button as before. Sometimes you have to push two remote buttons simultaneously Once you have completed test with your camera you can use the remote.

Hope this helpout in rectifying the problem....

I want to install it in my 1998 dodge ram but i

hi well it is a long process but i hope this will help you, tools you will need are 1x Philips screw driver ( cross head screw driver ) 1x 10mm socket and driver 2x original security keys ( if required! ) first thing to do is make sure you have all the parts for your radio that are needed these should be supplied with the system but here is a check list of what you need to fit it this will also depend on how you will mount it in the dash also, some car radio stores have power adaptors specifically for certain types of audio equipment to vehicle power plug, ie, they should have a lead that will plug into the plug from your vehicle into the plug for the audio unit..would be worth having an ask before you start cutting plugs off of things first and would cost only a few bucks, not only that it saves all the wiring up from one thing to another and also if you sell your truck, you can just plug original radio back in just a tip.... 1x security cage 2x security keys 1x power plug lead 1x aerial adaptor ok, to remove the original radio Open up the power outlet door and locate and remove one (1) Phillips head screw using your Phillips screwdriver . Set screw aside. Open up both the cup holder door and the ashtray door, remove the bezel that surrounds the radio and climate control and extends across the instrument cluster,To do this, grasp the bezel with your hands on the bottom right side of bezel just above the cup holder door pulling toward you to release a series of clips. Once released, work the remaining clips loose by pulling toward you all the way around the bezel. There are a total of fourteen (14) clips. When the bezel is loose disconnect the wiring harness to the power outlet and set bezel aside. Using a 10mm socket & driver locate one of the (1) screws below and to the left of the radio holding the radio in place. Remove that screw and set it aside.do the same with the screw on the top right, remove this and set aside, gently grasp the bottom of the radio and pull towards you (note!!! some may have a security cage already fitted if so, make sure you have the keys handy to remove it ), once in the correct position you can then access the rear plugs and areal, disconnect them from the radio, and set the radio aside ok that's the easy bit done, now the hard bit starts...... Pull all the plugs out of the old radio recess ( don't pull so hard as to brake them though, just enough to work with if you do not have the plug to plug adaptor ) you should have 2 or 3 plugs depends on if you have tweeters in your truck, the main power plug should have these wires on it as you look at the plug from the front ( where it plugs into the old radio ) from left to right brown/red = left front speaker - neg dark blue/red = right front speaker - neg black/yellow = day sensor orange = dimmer red/white = fuse power ignition pink = fuse box + pos violet/brown = ccd bus + pos white/black = ccd bus - neg light green = choke relay brown/yellow = left rear speaker + pos dark blue/white = right rear speaker + pos dark green = left front speaker + pos violet = right front speaker + pos brown/light blue = left rear speaker - neg dark blue/orange = right rear speaker - neg black/dark blue = ground - neg ok, that's that done, first things first, make sure you put the security cage in before we go any further, as if you connect the wires so they are permanently connected you will have to undo all your hard work and start again, so now that's out the way now we have what the colour ( i am from uk lol colour ) wires are for what things, time to connect them to the stereo plug, you can either cut the plugs and directly wire to wire, solder them, or just twist and tape them, i personally am a perfectionist and would solder them and use shrink covers on them, or just get plug to plug adaptor..ok here we go, the main power wires are the most important, obviously we need power to the system, and also we need to keep the programmed stations once done, so here is the wire to wire connections you need to do from your old plug to the new stereo plug ( as i said its up to you how you do them ) ok..... you need the constant power ( memory for the set stations and other stuff ) and an ignition power and also a good earth/negative
this will be as follows
Pink ( old plug ) to Yellow ( new plug ) constant power or memory as it is known. Red/White ( old plug ) to Red ( new plug ) Ignition power ( when ignition is turned on ) Orange (old plug ) to Orange/white ( new plug ) Dimmer ( when dash is dimmed if to bright ) Black/Dark blue (old plug ) should be left as is no need to touch, Black ( new plug ) this should be attached to a clean metal area as this is the main earth to chassis.
ok that's the power sorted, it should now be able to switch on and off and remember programmed stations.ok now to the speakers...check the other plugs for these wires these are as follows
violet right front speaker pos+ (old) to Grey ( new ) dark Green left front speaker pos+ (old) to White (new) dark blue/white right rear speaker pos + (old) to Purple (new) brown/yellow left rear speaker pos + (old) to Green (new) brown/red left front speaker neg - (old) to White/black (new) dark blue/red right front speaker neg - (old) to Grey/Black (new)
and that's that...the new stereo does not have provisions for 6 speakers unless you are transferring it through an amp, this is the basic 4 speaker set up, there may be more wires for other speakers on the power plug from the new stereo, and these might go to the other speakers if you have them, you will also have other wires on the new plug, like parking sensor wire, this is connected to the hand brake/parking brake wire, and electric areal wire etc etc, these will have labels on them to tell you what they are for, you do not have these with the old plug, and some of them you will not need to use, that will be up to you on what you will be adding, like amp's, TV/DVB receivers, multi disc CD changer etc etc...well i hope this has helped you, its taken ages to write.....good luck, please comment and rate thanks

This is an internal problem with the CD/DVD mechanism that can not be repaired without professional services.
This is a very exspensive system and should only be service by qualified service technicians.

Send it back to where you bought it and get them to replace it under warranty if covered if not ask for replacement unit as its a bad unit, Otherwise will cost you loads in getting it repaired.

Hi there,
I would suggest looking at pages 4 through 6 of the following installation manual(found on kenwood's site):

It details all of the wires/colors and what they are for.

I hope that helps.
