Internet connection drops every 15 minutes

Intermittent Connectivity:
NOTE: Before following the steps in this article, check if your wireless computers have stable connection when connected to other wireless networks (hotspots).
This article assumes that all wireless computers are experiencing intermittent wireless connection with the router.
Frequent wireless disconnection can be caused by different factors such as:
  1. Wireless interference within the network.
  2. Wireless settings of the router are still set to default.
  3. Firmware is corrupted.
Reducing Wireless Interference
If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from the wireless network, it helps if you check the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:
your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors’), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router’s channel to 1 or 11 (the default channel is 6) and restart the wireless computers.
Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be losing connectivity because of physical obstacles such as walls and floors. Try to move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.

  • Placement of the router: Mfg. suggest that you place your router as high off the ground as possible. When placing the router in a high location, leave a distance of two feet between the router antenna tips, ceiling, and wall. If your signal passes through multiple floors, place the router on the upper-most floor, and high up in the room.
  • Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.
Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the router may cause conflict with other routers within your network range. Mfg.suggest changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Cannot connect my modem to xbox live

Try disconnecting your Xbox from the modem, turn both off, wait 60 seconds.

Reconned the Xbox to the modem, turn the modem on, wait 3 minutes, then turn your Xbox on. That should work.

Connecting a wireless router to Tiscalli broadband connection

  1. USB modem is connecting a PC USB port with a DSL phone line: CANNOT be connected to a ROUTER LAN (ethernet NOT USB port).
  2. Wireless ROUTER is NOT a modem and it CANNOT connect the Internet (or WAN) LAN port to any "phone line"
  3. Connect the Router Internet (WAN) port to Modem (you need a LAN MODEM = a modem with a LAN/ETHERNET port)
  4. Be sure your internet is running before strting ROUTER configuration with Router Company CD

Hi there

I think up to now you've been using someone else's Internet service, by picking up the signal wirelessly. You need your own Internet Service. You now connect your access point in the way the Internet Service Provider guide you. It is a different set up with cable (they provide a modem) or with BT (connection through your phone line).

HI, I have two 3com

I don't know anything about these units, nor do I have time to source any docs for you, but maybe you can try connecting a PC directly to the port your patch panel is connecting the the switch from, you can at least see if that port is working. My next and only other suggestion is to invest in a "LAN cable tester". In my area, you can find cheap ones for U$20. The tester will allow you to check connectivity between any two ports, and allows you to test both patch links and individual CAT5/6 cables. Good luck!
