When I turn on the TV with the remote or on the
horizontal lines indicates that the vertical section is most likely the defect..a defective deflection yoke could cause this and eventually damage the vertical output ic causing an overloading in the power supply then can caused to shut down

you can get a cheap universal remte at most stores that will work with it or you can use a remote offof a vcr or dvd player fromthe smae manufacturer.

Maybe I didn't understand your question but you said it is working now?
(Just a thought, it may have just become confused because all the channel allocations changed as you were in a different location to your daughter?)
Leave it on standby for a couple of days and see what happens. if it then loses all the info after being unplugged for only a few hours then a battery will have to be replaced.

From your description it sounds like a vertical problem, the IC in the vertical sector may need to be resolded or replaced, there are 2 or 3 capacitors that should be checked that are very near the IC. This is a very common problem with Toshiba sets, and are worth getting repaired.

If there's an audio,,it might be the defective Vertical IC...but check first if there's 24v-26vdc supply coming from FBT going to Vcc of Vertical IC.
If there's no Audio,and only white horizontal line in the screen,check the Vertical out of Jungle IC.
