First, check out this link to see if you qualify for a class action lawsuit against Sony
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=402&mdl=KDS60A2000. At issue is what they call the "optical block" which is the "light engine" on other rear projection TVs. Sony's error was that they continued making these models despite knowing that the optical block failed on previous models, especially when consumers did not use the power saving feature. You may also contact the dealer from which you purchased the set to see if you qualify for an extended warranty replacement of the very, very expensive part.

Hi,
3 times red light blinks shows that lamp cover is not put back properly after lamp replacement.
There is safety switch that gets engage by lamp cover and sends signal to system control that lamp cover is in place.
Please make sure lamp is inserted fully in lamp housing and lamp cover engages/ press that safety switch in TV, now turn tv On and check.
You can easily find lamp cover safety switch around lamp cover area with good amount of light, press it manually and turn On tv, just to confirm the issue of 3 times blinking red light.
Hope this info will help you.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.
The tv goes off by itself and comes on by itself
Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. This might have happened due to over-voltage. Please check the
power supply unit for swollen/bulged capacitors and burnt wires/components on
the power supply board of your TV. Also check this link for the meaning of blinking codes. You should try and turn off the TV for 8-10
hours to reset it. Please make sure to turn off and unplug the TV for at
least 1 hour (this will drain off current from all components especially
capacitors) before you perform any repairs. Also note that the TV consists of
very high voltages even when it is in OFF condition. All this is only
recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder
components. Please do accept the
solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
Thanks

Your Light Engine is on it's way out. The average cost to replace it is about $800.00. I would seriously consider not doing it. Most of our customers with that problem are putting the set in the basement for the kids to play there video games on and look to buy a new set. I would suggest LCD over Plasma because of the repair cost. Picture quality now is vary close.
I turn on the tv watch it for 5min it blacks out
grab a long extention cord go to another place in the house plug it in and see if this still happends. this may be a circuit pannel going bad on your house breaker box. some go to many rooms in the house. if you are on the same line as say the fridge and the micorwave this would give you a brown out or power loss.
other than this sounds like a heat issiue and the power board inverter may need to be replaced. but these are generally 225 bucks.

Tak3e a look at retuning the convergence If this is the one with standard WARM1 Warm 2 try those settings. It may have something to do with the brand of bulb fitted that it requires retuning. Is it a Philps bulb? Philips made the lamp to fit all sony units.
there are other types of lamps and some will throw the convergence out by miles and its almost an impossible job to retune them to satisfactory levels.
Whats should be a simple lightbulb change is often the entry door to nightmare alley as bulbs differ so much in shape, incandessance and lux.
t would be a rare occsion if the change did not require some retuning of the color wheel or convergence factors on most of these TV's
there should be a text oon convergence in the manual, on how to access the menu. Most models describe how to generate the hatch pattern to correctly line up the guns.
Often better to get it changed by a tech than to DIY!
Thanks for using FIXYA
Uneven color and brightness on modelkds55a2000
Hi, it sounds like a problem with your light engine. This is a very common failure on Sony sets.Let me explain how your tv works. The uses a lamp that the light of the lamp is directed by mirrors to 3 LCd chips that are like tiny screens that create the colors and image by blending together. If there's any color discoloration its because of those chips. In order to fix this problem you will need to replace the light engine. On this website you might be able to find it www.discount-merchant.com?Click=48173 the brightness might be afftected by the lamp that is going bad.Your Philips lamp last 6000-8000 hrs 2-4 yrs.First replace the light engine or contact sony.Good luck and God bless you!
