Panasonic DMR-ES25 DVD Recorder - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
My 3 year old Panasonic VCR (DMR ES20) is still
Hello, Ejband -
I believe your Panasonic DMR ES20 is a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) and not a VCR (Video Cassette Recorder.)
If you do not have the user manual for your DVR, you can find it here to download for free:
http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/panasonic/dmres20.html
It is a PDF document, so you will need Adobe Reader software (free).
I suggest you run through the set up procedures for your DVR, just as if it is a new installation. Among other steps you will need to reset the time (reset the clock.)

Make Panasonic DMR-XW390 region free
I need to ask why you need a "Region Free" DVD player. What is the difference between that and a Region 1? Please let me know, I am curious. Thanks

Putting a new disc and it wont read it
Hi
This particular model has good compatability with all disk types. Therefore the problem is unlikely to be with the type of disk you are using.
If this is happening with all disks then there is a problem with the laser reading the disk and this is usually due to dirt or debris on the lens.
You can avoid disassembly of the unit by trying a DVD cleaning disk such as
this. The alternative is to clean the lens with a Q-Tip and some isopropyl alcohol.
If the problem is confined to one brand of disk then suspect the disk itself as some recorders are picky about which brand disks they can read.
Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.

Try one of these methods of resetting it
1. Hold the power button in for 20 seconds if that dont help
2. on the machine itself hold both the channel up and channel down buttons in at the same time for 20 seconds. if it fails too
3. Press and hold the stop button and the play button at the same time on the machine for 20 seconds.
and lastly
4. Hold the record and the play button on the machine at the same time for 20 seconds
these are all the reset methods listed in the users guide
also make sure there is not a hold button on the remote!

U61
According to the owners manual the U61 error is listed below. (Page 47)
There was a power failure or the AC plug was disconnected while the unit was on. The unit is carrying out its recovery process. This process restores the unit to normal operation. The unit is not broken. Wait until the message disappears.
You can download the owners manual here.
http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMRES25-MULTI.PDF
I would recommend trying to unplug the unit overnight and then plug it in and see if this helps. Not sure what you might have tried, but this may help.

My Samsun 130 recorder says unable to read disc.
i bought a lens cleaner disc, and i took it in for repair at a local place. some plastic part had warped from the heat of the machine. part replacement and cleaning for, i don't remember what. $30 or $40. turn it off when you're not using it. use a second machine for playing and save this one for recording.

Panasonic DMR- EA18 DVD player/recorder - Remote control Problem
I figured out, unlike all the other posts, you don't have an enter button. But Instead, you would hit the 2 and OK button at the same time for a few seconds. I had the RC1 message and I did the 1 with OK and it worked. so if you have RC2, you should hit the 2 and OK. Should work!!

The remote is required for most operations. You can get one on Ebay--or clean your family room/house and find the one you lost.
