The outer sheath of the chuck turns a thread on the back of the jaws in the chuck and it it is not tightening correctly then the jaw threads have been broken/cracked or the jaws have been stressed out of alignment and are not longer closing in a parallel manner. If the problem is with very small bits 1/16" for example, the chuck could be defective in either design or manufacture. I have had this problem with a cordless model FS1800D. Waiting on a replacement chuck.

Without any more detail about your particular finishing sander, I do not know whether this will help, AND I am no expert, but here goes ...

I inherited a Black and Decker 1/3 sheet sander, with no manual, from my late brother. It is not their newest model -- from the yellow plastic and the general looks and wear, I would say it is from the 1980s or 90s. The sand paper is held by a sort of spring clamp at both the front and back. There is a slot -- perhaps half an inch wide and a quarter inch tall -- in both of these spring clamps. I inserted a wide-bladed screwdriver into the slot, and pryed away from the sanding pad to open the clamp and insert the new 1/3 sheet.

Hope this helps!

The bush/bearing behind the trimmer head is probably rusted or worn out and the motor is poling out and creating a short situation. Not much can be done so it may be best to junk it and get a new one.

get the warranty card out of the box or from the back of the user hand book and fill out all the relevant details and post if off to the manufacturer. Or you may be able to down load from the manufacturers web site a pdf form for the registration.
