if its like my DC925,you have to remove front of trans. toward chuck! its a plastic piece with a s.s. flat spring washer. if washer falls out install from bottom of plastic when removed from trans. bearings stand in gear grooves. make sure if nut falls out match 1 with 1!

Depending on how old or more to the point how many times you have already charged the battery, it may be worn out. All rechargeable batteries do reach a point where they won't charge up anymore.
