Lost keys to security gates living in a mews

If this is a shared entrance - you need to contact the main keyholder - maybe a grounds management company. Most systems like this operate under a restricted profile key system. New keys are only issued against signatures.

If it is just your own property - Provide proof of this to a registered locksmith for them to change locks.

Kwikset deadbolt

use the proper size alan wrench to tighten or loosen face plate . That is if you have not stripped that hole by putting the wrong tool to it. Under that plate is the 2 main screws to hold the hardware tight to the door.

Kwikset powerbolt 1000 keyless entry deadbolt lock with keypad

Make sure that the bolt hole on the jamb side is recessed enough so the bolt gets a full extension. Without this externsion the bolt will not engage the key release. So when you do your quarter turn you are actually turning more. Remove the strike plate and drill the hole deeper until the bolt can extend all the way. Also double check your key to make sure it is not spurred or worn.

Lost keys to my Entry door lock

Visit your local Home Depot and purchase a Kwikset re-keying kit. They're inexpensive and work fine but stay alert and follow the instructions properly. This kit comes complete with proper pins as well as new keys. Good Luck!

Key will not come out in unlocked position

I presume you figured it out by now, but if the tailpiece is installed wrong in many deadbolts, the key won't come out in one position or the other. It's called a "timing" problem and the way to fix it is to take it off the door, turn the tailpiece a half circle and put it back on the door. Usually Kwikset locks are designed so you can't put it in the wrong way, but it can happen. (If it's not the timing problem, then the deadbolt unit is defective or broken. They are designed to fail in a way that keeps them locked, so this could be a sign that someone tried to break in, or that someone used the extended bolt as a way to stop the door from closing and it hit the door frame too hard.) The best way to install a deadbolt lock without the instructions handy is to look at the "lazy" cam and see if there is a way to install it wrong and don't install it that way. Example: If there are 2 ways for the tailpiece to fit in the deadbolt unit when the deadbolt is retracted and only one way for the tailpiece to fit in when the deadbolt is extended, then install the lock with the deadbolt extended and you can't install it wrong.

I have a 20+ year old kwikset deadbolt that I want to change the backset on from 2 3/4 to 2 3/8. It seems this is undoable on my model. Did you manufacture unadjustable deadbolts then?

No. Fixya doesnt manufacture anything. Fixya is for questions and answers and for fraudulent spam postings.

I'm locked out of a shed with a Kwikset doorknob lock, key turns in lock but knob won't

I don't know if this is the best answer, but I would try to slip a heavy credit card between the door and the jam where the knob is. It may be a quick solution for the moment.

Hello. I am trying to replace my old kwikset door knob. It has visible screws which I have taken out. It is impossible to take apart. Can you help?

Have you released the knobs? They are held on with a small depression thing on the stem of the handle. Press this in and pull on the knob to release it. Try the video it may be of some help but do the opposite to the fitting.
