We have used this cordless trimmer for 3 years with no problems. Now it is showing the green light that the battery is fully charged, but nothing happens when I press the safety switch and then the trigger.

Part number #243614-00.
It's a microswitch made by Honeywell that costs about 5 bucks plus shipping.
The attached file has the schematic and parts list.
The CST2000 is well worth spending a few bucks to keep it going. Finding a local B&D authorized service center near you will even save you the shipping as they can order it for you.
Every other component is pretty dependable- the motor, battery, wiring, charging system, spool system- all built to last.
Only down side is you really only get 20 to 25 minutes of hard weedwhacking before you need to recharge. Of course, it's time for a cold beer in the pool by then.

The automatic feed for the trimmer line is no longer working. I have replaced the trimmer spool with a new B & D spool ( I was replacing my own line) but the auto feed still does not work. Please advise. Thanks
How do you replace the white lever, and how do you know if it is broken?

Both brand new and won't charge. Purchased from DeWalt,14811 NE Airport Way, Portland, OR. They refuse to exchange or refund!
Open the unit up (six cross-head screws). Inside you'll find a 12V 5.0AH rechargeable battery, like the kind used in many home alarm systems.
You can get a replacement at most battery stores (they'll even pre-charge it for you). Somewhere around $20, I guess.

I plugged in the trimmer and was using it for approximately 5 minutes when it stopped working. I tried plugging it into another outlet on the chance that I blew a fuse at my home. No luck. Is there an internal fuse on the trimmer I should be looking for to replace? If not, what other things might cause it to stop working?
no fuse in this unit. checked first the switch terminal then the motor connetion. could be brushes.

I have a Black & Decker Weed Trimmer model 8209 but the string is all gone. I bought some bulk string that was same diameter as what was on it but I haven't found instructions on winding it on the "spool".
There is a picture of a loaded reel on Amazon. com at this hyperlink:
www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-Trimmer-Replacement-RD-300/dp/B00004R9TP
Can anybody tell me exactly how it should be wound on the "reel", or point me to instructions on the Internet? I don't want to pay big bucks for a couple of dollars worth of string on a reel just like my empty one. Thanks!
By the way, I was FORCED into choosing the wrong product below because the "can't find you product" doesn't list my item and the drop-down list of Black & Decker equipment doesn't list my model number!
I went to the B&D web site and downloaded the manual for this unit.
Here is the link

There is power in the machine but the housing/spool is not rotating at all.
Hi there, I just thought I'd mention that I also have a Black & Decker GL720 with the same problem. I'm pretty sure it is less than 1 year old too, so well within the 2 year manufacturer's guarantee here in the UK. I think it may be a UK specific model and the phone number from MrFixIt looks like a US number.
I have tried taking the plastic casing apart, but with no luck, as the two halves won't come apart easily, even after removing all the screws. Ah! OK, I've found out the reason that it wouldn't come apart now, there is a screw hidden under the 123 sticker.
It's all apart now, and I see what is wrong, there is a belt running between a small cog and a large cog, and in my case the large cog has partially melted and the belt has come off. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can get the replacement part now. Hopefully with yours, MrFixit, the belt might have just slipped off, fingers crossed.
Anyway, here is a service diagram of it in case it will help anybody, but as you will see it says only certain parts can be ordered. If anyone locates a supplier of all the parts please post it here.
Many thanks
Simon

what makes the automatic feed advance the string?
the notice on the trimmer says it has an AFS Automatic Feed Spool, "NO BUMPING REQUIRED". I see that underneath the spool, there's a small plastic centrifugal weightwith a peg on it. . It kinda looks like it might advance the line each time the electric motor starts and stops. If there are loose clippings in there, or if the weight is stuck, it probably would cause the problem.

My weedeater with auto line feed will not stop feeding the line when in use.
Did you ever get an answer to this problem? I'd like to know because I have the same problem with my cordless 14" Black N Decker Gass Hog. I rethread it, but the line continually feeds and is out in about 2 minutes.
