No sound recognized in Audacity from Fast Track M-Audio

First thing is what operating system is on the computer. Second is what does device manager say about the recording interface? Third in audio properties from the task bar icon, what is the default device for recording?

What i/o do i need to hear my tracks through protools

It depends on what version of Protools you are using. And also on what it is running on, PC or MAC. Starting with v9 Protools is hardware independent. Which means and audio interface (I/O) should work just fine for listenning to tracks from protools. Depending on your computer it will support direct audio or core audio. make sure the interface supports ASIO as that is the standard and default way to go

I can record voice, but no guitar. Just as many

In Protools go into hardware setup and make sure that your interface is being read properly. It may be set to something other then your fast track. Then, in the MIX window make sure that your input is set correctly. If your microphone is plugged into input 1, your input on your protools track should correspond to that.

Connecting an M Audio Fast Track USB to a Behringer XENYX 1002

I suppose that you connect the behringer mixer master out (just one of the two channels in case of two) to the guitar input of the Fast Track. Have you tried to hear your mic from the phones output at the front panel of the Fast Track? Try changing the guitar gain and the output level at the top of the Fast track.

I'm waiting for your results or clarification, please post.

Thanks and regards
Please kindly rate this solution

There is a button on the front that switches between XLR and 1/4" inputs. Make sure that your mic doesn't require phantom power, as the FastTrack doesn't supply the right voltage.

Why do i hear some

Open up your computer to check usb connection make sure the connection is good and dust free or you might have to clean the dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the CPU central processing unit and your sound card dust causes static to build up in a computer causing it to overheat any many other problems be sure to wear an anti static earth strap before touching anything inside your computer hope this helps

I am not able to

Pro-Tools 8 and above requires an Intel-based Mac running OS 10.5.5 or later. The newest version you can use with Mac OS 10.4.x is ProTools 7.4, and the oldest version that will work with your hardware is 7.1. The complete system compatibility list is on the Avid site.

If you meet compatibility requirements, but get an installer error, you may have a corrupted download - try downloading again with no other network traffic from that computer during the download. If I read the download page correctly, most of the downloads are upgrade patches for previously installed versions rather than full installation packages. Attempting to run these without the older version in place will generate some sort of error. - how gracefully it is handled depends on the style, skill and diligence of the programmer.

You may also want to do a file system and permissions check on your computer with Disk Utility to make sure there are none of those problems causing hangups.

Two questions: #1: Fast Track often disconnects.

To alleviate this problem, try moving your M-Audio device a short distance away from your computer. Another solution is to turn off Bluetooth and your wireless network and / or airport card during the recording. If you have a cell phone, move it away from your speakers and M-Audio interface.

Limited bandwidth of the USB 1.1 bus:

- 2 Inputs and 0 Outputs at 24Bit / 96kHz
- 0 Inputs and 2 Outputs at 24Bit / 96kHz
- 4 Inputs and 2 Outputs at 24Bit / 44.1 or 48kHz
- 2 Inputs and 4 Outputs at 24Bit / 44.1 or 48kHz
- 4 Inputs and 4 Outputs at 16Bit / 44.1 or 48kHz
- 2 Inputs and 8 Outputs at 16Bit / 44.1 or 48kHz (Sonica Theater)
- 4 Inputs and 4 Outputs with every other sample rate up to 16Bit/44.1kHz. This information applies to recording/playback through separate physical Inputs and/or Outputs. Of course you can't get more inputs or outputs than physically present on your USB Audio device. Playing multiple audio tracks that are mixed down within a software application and being output through the available physical audio outputs on the M-Audio USB audio device is always possible (e.g. playing a virtually unlimited amount of audio tracks within a software application, played through the outputs 1+2 on the USB audio device). Some M-Audio USB audio devices do not support all listed Sample Rates and/or Bit Depths (e.g. MobilePre/FastTrack up to 48kHz, Black Box always at 44.1 kHz).

For USB devices equipped with an power button or switch, power off your M-Audio device before putting the computer in sleep mode, and wake the computer from sleep mode before powering your device back on.

For USB devices without a power switch, disconnect the USB cable before putting the computer in sleep mode, and wake the computer from sleep mode before reconnecting. You can disconnect the USB cable from either the M-Audio device or the computer. When disconnecting from the computer, make sure you reconnect to the same USB port.

If your M-Audio device is not working after following the procedures above, restart your computer to re-establish a connection with the device.

I get a high pitched

I don't know what devices are connected to your audio input ports, sounds like gain is too high on a microphone or guitar or speaker setting too close to your work station, sound like feedback loop.

My m-audio fast track usb

Hello, try going into Sound & Audio Settings through control panel. From there, click on the Audio Button. Toward the bottom on the left, UNCHECK the box that says 'USE ONLY DEFAULT DEVICES'. Then Under RECORDING section, pull down the drop menu and select M-Audio. And Click APPLY & OK to close. I would reboot and it should be working after that.. ok? Good Luck & PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO RATE MY SUGGESTION, OK? THANK YOU :)

I have driver installed but every time i plug in

Just what the message means- USB devices should draw only 200ma or so. My guess is that the M-Audio device has a shorted capacitor inside and that causes high current draw. It needs to be serviced or replaced.
