V1 Radar Detector Questions & Answers
Can you tell me what is wrong with my valentine one radar detector please
Old thread but This is probably a fried DC/DC converter inside the detector. Fuses are good for shorts but connecting to double the operating voltage will kill your electronics every time. Valentine 1 is the best. I beat laser with mine. Mike Valentine stands behind his product but you broke it so they probably will charge you for repair. If you have 24V system for stereo then any plugs or terminals need to be obviously marked. Try using a color that you can't mistake like yellow. .Or use a 12v power amp and your neighbors will be much happier.

Valentine one doesnt work
If you can, I'd recommend it taken back for replacement or have a stereo/audio shop look at if you think its worth it.

My Valentine One wont power
Check the fuse inside the cigarette lighter adapter that came with your V1. You'll have to pop the top off with the hinge to access a hidden screw (star pattern). Total of 3 screws. Inside you should find a 2 amp mini blade fuse, your V1 should have come with an extra fuse (mine did). I had the same issue, no power, changed the fuse and power cord, powered right up.

Did self check on start up and then stopped
You checked the fuse that is contained inside the cigarette lighter adapter, correct?
If that fuse is blown, get a new one at your local electronics store.
You should also verify that the power from the cigarette lighter adapter is on. You can do that by testing it with the actual lighter, or you can use a voltmeter or test light to determine if power is reaching the lighter outlet.

I just bought a v1 but it goes off everywhere. how
That's the way it should be.. Burglar alarms and stoplight sensors transmit on the same wavelengths as radar but mostly X and K band which are hardly ever used for traffic radar anymore. KA band is better and that is what most use now. depends on where you are, Find out what the local jurisdictions use. You have to get used to alerts and learn what is real or not. It's like using any kind of locator like a metal detector. It tells you there is a signal and even tells you the direction. Would you want to trust it to decide which signal was real?

Where to mount in BMW 750LI
i know this respone is late but better than never....
i not that experenced with radar detectors but try to place where ever you can higher is better for police cars with k or ka band but in NZ(New Zealand) we have photo radar that has a low freq Ka band that is facing towards the road at under 45 degree angle. for this you would need to place the radar lower to get better range. So decide on what type of radars you are likely to run into and then decide where to mount the valentine one then consult a tinting company if the can cut a strip of coating out where you want to mount the valentine one. but as the valentine is a very good radar it might be able to go through the coating and only minimise the distance by a little bit but i would try it in a car without the coating then with the coating to see the difference and if it is to much or a problem then you could always mount the V1 on the front of the car then use a concealer display that can be purchased from V1's website https://store.valentine1.com/store/

My valentine one will not
They are using instant-on radar that has a weak K-band signal that is used to turn on the radar when you are in range. The signal is so weak that you cant detect it until you are in range of the main radar set. This is also known as radar detector countermeasures. Laser is worse. I have beaten laser twice with my Valentine 1 in California where it requires 2 reads to nail you. Slam on the brakes when your detector alerts..

My Ka alert has started
have you tried to find out where on that same road it always goes off? could either be a new hidden camera or some other device recently installed utilising the same frequency as ka transmitting in that area. had same prob with my v1 always goes off in one part of the country road. even got out of car to investigate but found nothing that appears obvious.
