Beyond Micro (BM120MD3U2) 120 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive Questions & Answers
Is there a driver for windows 7?
One or more of the hints below will probably sort out most USB problems with most USB portable / external hard drives and OTHER devices (though not always)
A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems (mac/ Linux) similar steps may be adapted to suit.
1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability
2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)
3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.
4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.
5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especially true if you move a HUB to another port
6. For FLASH DRIVES you should ensure that the device is set for "quick removal" using the drive control panel properties or use the USB "Safely Remove Hardware" option. If you don’t do this there is a very strong chance that any files you transfer may not be there when you plug into another computer.
7. It is possible to remove drives from the enclosures in most cases and connect directly inside a PC to fully check it.
You should also do this to check the drives connections are not bad inside the enclosure.
8. If none of the above steps help look at updating the drivers from the manufacturers web site in the support section.
9. If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further
10. Ensure that you have set removable drives for "quick removal" or that you use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option often shown on the lower toolbar. It is possible that files my not be fully written to external devices before they are removed. This corrupts the file itself and even on occasion the drive.
SPECIAL NOTES
USB flash drives can fail for no apparent reason.
Sandisk Cruzers are especially bad for this.
USB hard drives should be treated with extreme care.
This is a real hard drive ! And knocks and bumps can quite literally kill them.
Note that if you hear a drive clicking or pinging this could be the worst thing you would hear.

I have a Beyond Micro 500 GB External HDD. When
Hi!,
The sound you hear is the sound of the disc which is running anyway it may be a driver issue please uninstall the driver then restart the PC and reinstall the driver and check the issue.
My hard drive is making
HI. This hard drive is dead, unfortunately. The clicking sound is coming from the damaged rotating motor, and tracking assembly. the drive will not be able to transfer, or receive any information in this state. The red light is a error signal that is referring to a malfunctioning control board. this board is housed in the HD casing, and is used to coordinate the main functions of the drive(receiving/transfer/power)
It is possible to reset the unit by unplugging it for five minutes. If the reset doesn't improve the drives performance, this will confirm my diagnosis, and you will need to replace the drive.
I need the same drivers!
I devised these simple steps that tend to remedy quite a few issues with most portable / external hard drives (though not always)
A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems similar steps may be adapted to suit.
1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability

3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.
4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply
Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.
5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again.
If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues carry on reading.
Go to your control panel and then administrative tools, select Computer Management.
Now select Disk Management and expand the window.
Your drive should be listed here, if not then you need to check your computer hardware has not got any issues before proceeding.
If your drive is listed and says healthy then right click on it an select Properties, click Tools and then Error Checking, Check now, tick the two boxes and then Start.
This will attempt to fix most minor / common errors on the drive. It may also ask you to restart which is fine. Allow it to finish its work or you could corrupt the drive. If all went well you should be able to use it normally again.
If you drive was listed but did NOT say healthy then right click and select Format. Choose NTFS as the file system and do not tick any boxes you do NOT want quick format. Again start and let it do its thing. When it is done restart your computer and you should be good to go.
If you still have problems with the drive you might want to look at other areas.
Back up hard drive making
If the whining is not massivly load then its most likely wear on the bearings though modern drive bearings rarely suffer from this problem. It can also sometimes rather than wear be dust contamimation again the bearings. If yu have a short and screened USB cable try that. If that doesnt work and you feel brave remove the drive from the external box and connect it if possible directly to the PC or Mac. If the drive is SATA or IDE (PATA) then make sure you have a spare bay and connectors in your PC / MAc to do this. See if its recognised by the system then. IF this fails repost and ill take a lok at what you have. Hope this helps
MArk
Wont boot or make noise but lights are on
remove it from the case and put it straight into your computer using a spare power plug and cable. to see if you are doing it right check one of the other hard drives in the tower switch on and see if there is any diffrents if not then i am sorry to tell you it is caput
I have a Beyond Micro
I am giving you magic out of my pendora box..........
As your system
has got infection so booting it normally actually wont help you much so
kindly boot your system in safemode with networking and download
following
1.Malawarebytes.exe
2.Trojan Remover.exe
And
3Combofix
Now
update
it and run them one by one in sequence ,This will free your
system from any harmfull infection may it be ,you ve mentioned that you
are not able to open the pen drive it is because of trojan so keep your
removable media plugged and then after finishing operation in safe mode
run the same in normal mode
Now these
steps not omly fixes the problem but makes your pc 20-30 times fast
depending upon configuration as ypur sytem performace will be
automatically optimized and prevent and future intrusion
First things first .....check for power cable and data cable and make
sure they are not tampered or damaged now move to next step>>>
kindly remove all jumpers in HDD now go to
Control panel>Administrative tool>Computer management>Disk management
you can see the disk here and change settings accordingly like assigning path and drive letter if this does not work
then just see that is it recognized in device manager as unrecognized
device then update driver for HDD even now if the problem persists
KIndly consult the manufacturer
One more thing you asked about drivers let me inform you that OS Drivers natively supports this
device
Thanks And Regards
Red dot and beep
The problem is in most cases the Power Supply given is of too low of Wattage, at 1.5. After some time, it will no longer provide the drive the needed power, thus the red light.
Try another similar power supply of higher Watts (my Maxtor has it at 2.0 watts.
Try getting Higher power Supply from Radio Shack. Store Tech will Help you.
Lastly, inside the enclosure is simply a typical Hard Drive. Remove it and Slave it to your PC.
Drivers
The only DRiver is already supplied with OS 2000pro & up as Firewire. Problem connecting is due to the Supplied Power Supply. Wattage is too low at 1.5. Try a higher Power Supply.
The hard drive does not switch on....
Use the higher wattage power adapter. I believe that you indicated that the wrong power supply worked.
There is currently a problem with the Lower Watts Power Supply of 1.5 watts over time.
