My Seagate freeagent 320GB won't

Get the Testdisk app and see if it can identify the issue. You can repair the boot sector or create a new one with th is app. If it shows up in the drive list you have a good chance of getting the drive back.

Seagate external hard drive won't turn on. No lights, not power cable not power base.

Try new USB cable. Still no joy, data recovery is very expensive. Last ditch efforts (not all at once), try putting it in the freezer, twist the drive opposite corners, give the drive a firm bang

click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red xright click to reinstall drivers or

if you can see your usb but its not workingports(com&lpt)right click update driver

if this fails to fix the problem

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

if this fails to fix the problem type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. If i try to load

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge guarantee".

If the Hard drive is 320gb then why does it show

This is called file system over head. When you "format" a drive in Windows for example, the operating system uses a certain portion of the space for allocating the file system, Master File Table, and partition information. So, the 298 you see, is the formatted capacity. The larger the drive, the more "reserved space" is used. If you find this helpful, please leave positive feedback.

My computer wont detect my external

Hello Friend, after reading your problem i suggest you that first check your connection cable it may be corroded or stretched try new cable this may be solve your problem.
If still you got same problem then go to manufacturer for solving this because this may be internal problem like your hard drive lens is not working or the driver card may gone this is done sometime because of attaching or removing hard drive unsafely like just plug in and out do not use safety remove option. So go to manufacturer of hard drive if it is in warranty then they may repair or even replace it.
Hope this will solve your problem.Best of Luck...

Restore files from freeagent on to windows 7

In this case the MOST effective way is to try some data recovery program to see if it can help rescue your files on your Seagate external.

Need to recover files

First thing first - STOP using your WD drive immediately! If you continue using the disk drive, you significantly increase the risk that the files you want to recover will be lost forever due to overwritten. Every new file or action will take up more "free space" and reduce your chances of retrieving your deleted files from WD. So really, you need to act quickly. The next step - get a good Mac HDD data recovery software to retrieve the data as most as possible.Learn more from: http://www.western-digital-data-recovery.com/

I have just connected my External Desktop Drive

Hello,

The simplest thing that I would advise you to do is this:

Locate the high-volume files and folders on your system, and group them together.

Put them all in a single folder and give the folder a Unique name e.g "My Valuable files".

Thereafter, copy this whole newly created folder onto the external drive and after doing this, defragment both your external drive and your System hard drive.

This should give you a whole lot of space and make your system to be very much faster.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
