My cd rom is working fine. It is able to burn
On some models this prompt reads Press F12 for boot menu. On others, it may say Press C to boot from CD-ROM. On still others, there may be a row of colored icons representing the various boot devices (HDD, FDD, CD, LAN, PCMCIA, etc.) Press F12 while these icons are displayed, and then use the arrow keys to move the cursor from one to another. As new models are released, the wording of these prompts may change.
Immediately after pressing the power-on button, press the hotkey for the device from which you wish to boot:

Dead toshiba satellite laptop
If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a drysolder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Disk error occurred
If this is a hard drive problem and you can't afford to lose the data, I can recommend SpinRite by GRC. It isn't free or shareware but is the best around.
I used it for many generations of PCs and it rarely failed to recover a dead or dying hard drive.

Toshiba A50 Not able to boot from CD
When you load the cd and reboot, when you see the toshiba screen, start tapping F12, see if this brings up the temporary boot menu, if it does choose the cd and watch closely for "press any key". If there is nothing showing, might I suggest you get an external cd drive that attaches by usb. You will then have to get back to the BIOS and set the usb as your first boot device and try to boot again from the usb cd drive. Good luck.
