My Sony DSC-w55 turns on and reads on ACCESS on black screen.

I just bought this Sony camera, and ive had it a week. I just took it out to use, and during half the day, when i turned it on, the screen was black and all it read was"ACCESS" in the middle. Otherwise it doesnt let me do anything. The shutter keeps opening and closing three times, and finally, in the black background it says" turn the power off and on again" I do this, but the same results happen... HELP...

I had the same "access" problem as everyone else - but here's the real way to permanently fix this problem when banging and smacking it barely works.

1 - Remove battery and memory stick. Back up the mem stick if necessary or paranoid.

2 - Using a small Phillips head screwdriver, remove all of the screws you see from the front (lens side), right and left sides of the camera. Then remove all three of the covers and place aside.
3 - Clean and remove all dirt & dust in and around front of camera, paying special attention to areas close the lens and lens housing areas.
4 - Insert battery and close the battery cover and then PLACE THE CAMERA RIGHT-SIDE UP ON A FLAT, NON-METALLIC SURFACE, MAKING SURE THAT YOU'RE NOT TOUCHING ANY OF THE EXPOSED CIRCUITS OR WIRING TO AVOID POTENTIAL SHOCK. This isn't a danger issue, more of a cover-my-*** related note. When I did this for my DSC-W55 I touched it just about everywhere without receiving generating anything close to a shock.
5 - Press the power button. If lens does open fully and you're still receiving the "access" message, continue powering off and on while using a toothpick or compressed air to remove remaining dirt and dust particles.
6 - When you're DSC-W55 is back in business - and after you've tested it multiple times via several on/off cycles, begin replacing the covers one at a time. The trick is to replace one cover, then to test the camera again via several on/off cycles. Do this until you've reattached all covers and camera is fully operational once again.
Tip - you may find success early by varying the tightness of the screws for each side's cover as you move along the on/off cycle process.

I have never had any problems with my camera when all of a sudden I turned it on and the flash symbol came on the screen and then E:91:01 came on the screen then it started beeping and then it shut off. at first I could turn it on and take pictures but the flash would not work at all. Now I turn it on it starts to do all those things and then it shuts off. I have tried charging the battery does not work.

e:91:01 is a flash error you might fix it by initializing the settings of the camera but there is no guaranty.

1.turn the unit on
2.press the menu button
3. select setup
4. inside setup and search for setup 1 (option with a toolbox icon with a number at the bottom.)
5. inside setup1, pls select initialize and reply with OK to evety prompt(using the center button)
6.if succesfull(you'll get clock settings)
7.set the date and time then try the camera again.

if this does not work.... call sony cust service 1800-222-7669

This camera doesn't give you the option to have the dates on the pictures. The manual says there is a Picture Motion Browser software that comes with the camera that could do it.
Hope that helps.

I had the same problem with my cybershot w55. I looked around online and found out that all you need to do is smack it around a little or yank on the camera lense. Basically the lense is just out of line. I had to pull on the lense as it was coming out, but some others had to hit the lense or push on it while it is going in and out. Don't be afraid to hit/yank it pretty hard! It has worked for me ever since!

Hello samtx930, "turn off the power and on again" its a very commen problem and occurs when the lens block assembly start malfunctioning. Actually the slide motor not work properly and until the lens not come out completely the camera will not work, that's why the error message appears "Access" and then screen shows "turn off the power and on again". In this situation you have to replace lens block assembly. And the part No. is with description is given below: 1-788-363-11 OPTICS UNIT (ED13A) Thanks for using fixya.

Sony cybershot DSC-W170 lens malfunction

I have had this camera for less than an year, and has been working fine until yesterday. i tried turning it on and the lens got stuck half way while coming out. The LCD screen displays, "Turn Camera off and on again". And ofcourse this hasnt worked. The lens wont move at all now and is stuck half way constantly.

I would have sent it in to sony for repair but I cant seem to find my purchase receipt. Not sure how much it would cost to repair it. Any suggestions would be great. Thankyou

sounds like you have dust, sand of some type stuck in the retracting lense. Ive found someone to tell me to take out my batterys and SD card, then tap the bottom of the camera on a table top. Replace the batteries and power up. Doing this, I was told it loosens up the debri for the lense to retract to close and to open again.

Sony cyber shot DSC S930 "Reinsert Memory Stick"?

I have a problem with my camera (a Sony Cyber Shot DSC-S930), I bought it about a 3 months ago, it's very new. I used it once before it broke. Every time I try to turn it on the screen turns blue and says "Reinsert Memory Stick." I've taken the memory stick in and out multiple times and that doesn't work. I really want the pictures on the memory stick, is there any way for me to get them back and get my camera working again?
