Zumo 550 Shut Downs
The problem is with maps overlaying. If you go to the little spanner and then press Map and press Map Info you should only see one Map info. If you have more than one then you need to connect to a computer and go to the Garmin drive. Remove the additional map this will be called suppmap1. Just move it for the time being to you computer just in case you need to put it back.
Another way to check is to press and hold the Volume key on the left whilst powering up. This bring all the info for the unit. Press Next then More on the screen the map name is the 6th one down.
Whatever Garmin tells you to do will not work. I sent mine back and they replaced it within 5 days. Service on that score is excellent.

Make sure that the bike's electrical connection to the GPS unit is actualy not having power once you turn the key off in the bike. This GPS turns on with external power. It is inherent in to its design.
In the case were you cannot have the bike's power source to the GPS turn off with the key, see if you can wire a small in-line switch in series with the GPS unit so that you have an external power switch. This should be easy to do.
The models I have used from Garmin have their own power switch. You should be able to use its power switch to turn it off.

Lost my vehicles
Go to
http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp, select download webupdater, choose run(install) instead of save, run the webupdater to check if your device needs updates like firmware, bluetooth, gps....after that you'll find a whole lot of language and text stuff (pick the ones you need only) and a bunch of vehicles....I don't think it comes any easier....
Zumo 550 Trip Log
In one of the menu's you can select the trip log to be visable, press wrench, press map, press to the right of triplog to switch from visable / hidden. press back, press user settings and there is manage trip log. BTW all this info can be found in the Fine Manual!
INSTALLING CITY NAVIGATIOR NT 2008
Erro 12007 means ERROR_INTERNET_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED
This means that you do not have any dns server names wher it can look up the ip adres of the garmin server you want to connect to. Do you have internet? Or are you on a dial up line where you have to dial-up to pick up your mail?
Zumo 400 wont connect to
Insert the Garmin DVD, open folder USB_Drivers thats where the correct drivers are, open control panel, open system, find the usb devive with the exclamation mark, right mouse the device and select update driver, point to the folder USB_Drivers on the DVD. It should work now.
Garmin zumo 550 cannot find satellites
I'd remove the battery first, leave it out some time, put it back, fully charge it and use webupdater to see if all is up to date. There is a test menu on the Zumo to see if all works. I will tell you how to get there, only after you have tried the above first!
Zumo 400
You mean helmet speakers? If you use the bike mount it should work, the car mount is a line out(not amplified so the sound is very poor) I had a wired helmet set, worked okay below 50 KMh

Have you checked the firmware updates through webupdater (on the garmin site)
Have you ever erased all user settings? To do this press and hold the right bottom of the touch screen while the zumo is powwered of, then press power on until the screen pops up, select yes to erase all user settings, it will now startup clean and request you to set the GPS up. Press and hold the clock will pop up the system menu. Any SD cards installed should be removed, just to make sure that's not the case. To see if your antenna is bust, connect an external antenna. I still have my streetpilot 3, rugged as hell, just a bit crappy memory wise, but back in those days it was THE SOLUTION!
Will not let me listen to music stored on sd card
Hi, how dit you format the SD card. It should be formatted as Fat32 before you store music on it. If the card does not showup in the browser there is an issue with the format. In some instances the card could be incompatible with the zumo. So format it first (Fat32), copy some mp3 files to it (id use 128 kbps mp3's to start off with) plug it in and see what happens. If nothing, try a different brand/size card. I use 4GB SDHC card made bij sandisk without issues.
Battery will not take charge from wall unit
Remove the battery for several minutes, replace the battery and plug the wall socket in, leave it for several hours. The battery is probably too dead to do anything, and recharges very slowly. If this doesn't work, try a replacement battery, before you send the unit in for repairs.
Zumo 550 blanks out
Is the GPS in the cradle? How is it wired for power? Any SD cards in the GPS? If so remove that first.
Sometimes line-noise can cause eratic behaviour, line-noise usually comes from the generator, fans, ignition systems. try to wire the device closest to the battery, the battery works as a capacitor and reduces line noise. Try and run the gps with the wall charger, does it happen then too? Make sure you are on the latest firmware (garmins webupdater) .If it works okay running off the wall charger, then check what's with the vehicle power supply. Nothing there, insert the sd card....as soon as problems start, check the last changes made
Garmin zumo gps 550
Hmmm, sounds like a firmware issue, current firmware is 4.20, to update use the garmin webupdater download from the garmin site. PS the issues you mention were with firmware 3.30
Pop up screen
Do you have an sd card installed with mapping data on it ( a folder named garmin)? Or a defective sd card?
I had this error with a copied map, seems to be an issue with a wrong or missing *.unl file, which is an unlock file for unlocking map data
When loading new Map Update
I had the exact same problem updating my GPSMAP496, despite several tries. I then found the details below on the Garmin web site in the support area in a topic titled "
How do I use the update DVD with my Street Pilot 2620". After following these steps the update ran perfectly the next time through, so it looks as though the problem is with Windows turning off the internal USB root hub part way through to save power. FYI, I was running on Windows 2003 Server as I couldn't contact the Garmin server from my Xp workstation for some reason, but these steps still worked even though it says Xp only.
Steps 1-12 are for computers with Windows XP only:
- Please right click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop
- Left click on "Properties"
- Click on the tab that reads "Hardware"
- Click on the "Device Manager"
- Scroll to the bottom of the list and click on the (+) sign next to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"
- One or more lines will read "USB Root Hub", right click on the first one
- Left click on "Properties"
- Click on "Power Management"
- Make sure there is no checkmark next to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
- Click "OK" to save the change and close the PROPERTIES window
- Complete steps 6-10 for all the USB ROOT HUBS
- Close all windows and return to the computer Desktop.
- Right click on the screen and select "Properties"
- Click on the tab labeled "Screen Savers"
- Click on the button labeled "Advanced" or "Power"
- Under "Power Schemes", make sure all settings are set to "Never"
